Today, Marysville is still an agricultural community with many local businesses involved in agriculture or livestock production; however, its economy has diversified over time to include manufacturing and services such as health care and education

In 1870, Marysville became the county seat of Ferry County. The population reached 2,500 in 1915. Today, Marysville is a small town with a population of under 1,000. Its history is significant because it was one of the first towns in Washington state to be founded on Indian land and it remains an important cultural center for the region. The area that now includes Marysville was originally part of the Yakima Nation. When white settlers arrived in what is now Washington state in the early 1800s, they discovered large amounts of coal and gold hidden among the mountains. This led to a rapid growth for Marysville as businesses opened up and people began to settle hereabouts. By 1847, two-thirds of the town's inhabitants were white American Indians who had been brought over from British Columbia as part of treaty negotiations that ended the Northwest Indian War (1846-48). The remaining Native Americans were forced to leave their homes and start anew life on reservations throughout western Washington State. John C. Fremont was one such Indian who made room for himself within his own community by founding an agricultural business called Fremont & Company in 1847/8 (Fremont also purchased 8% interest in The Seattle Times). He also built a log cabin near today's intersection of Highway 99A and Ninth Avenue NE to serve as his home while he developed his new community into what we know today as Marysville*. In 1870, when Ferry County becameWashington Territory following its creation from parts of Oregon and Idaho*, its first major occupant* was Marysville.* At that time*, ferry service operated between Great Falls at the south end of Lake Union *and downtown Spokane *on Puget Sound *. In addition*, there were several wagon trains arriving each day fromSeattle carrying goods both inland* (to booming Tacoma *and other rural areas*) and outbound* (to points along Puget Sound) *. These days', only a few relics remain from those days: One can still find evidence that local residents constructed dam walls around their many small ponds during this time period; another artifact is an old locomotive track still visible just east of highway 99A; yet another remnant may be found at milepost 0 on Highway 99A where an old railroad crossing once stood.* All told*, these remnants testify unequivocally to how much transportation contributed to village growth during this era*. [*After Territorial government establishment†] In 1912–13 (*the year after WA gained statehood), Marysville experienced its biggest boom ever due largely to World War I industrial production locally (+$2 million worth total output*) . During these years(*also 1903-1911), many key citizens**including John C Fremontserved concurrently on various statewide committees related thereto***such as Mines & Geology Committee (#4), Workmen’s Compensation Committee (#5), Health Department #1 (#6) . On July 4, 1847, the first major event in Marysville's history took place when a group of men from nearby Walla Walla arrived to build a sawmill. The town was founded on the site of what is now the Walla Walla County Courthouse. The mill began production in 1849 and quickly became an important part of the local economy. In 1872, Marysville's post office opened and soon became one of the most popular in the area. The town continued to grow during this time with many new buildings being built including a Masonic Lodge and a Methodist Church.
