Lake Forest Park was created on April 15, 1892 as a result of the consolidation of several small towns in Washington. The new town was named for Anna Maria Lake, which then lay within the boundaries of Seattle. The original population of the new town was only 150 people, but it soon grew to over 1,000 people thanks to the influx of immigrants and businesses brought in by the railroad. In 1896, Lake Forest Park became a city and was renamed to Seattle after Mayor George W. Bryant.
