Ferndale was founded in 1887 by Edward Ferndale and his wife Emma. The town was named after Frederick Douglass, an American abolitionist who had been born in nearby Olympia and died in 1892. Ferndale became a city on July 1, 1907. As of the 2010 census, there were 2,853 people living in Ferndale residents made up of 1,553 males and 1,451 females. The racial makeup of Ferndale was 93% White (non-Hispanic), 7% African American (non-Hispanic), 0% Native American/Alaska Native (non-Hispanic), 2% Asian (non-Hispanic), and 1% Pacific Islander (non-Hispanic). Non-Hispanic whites made up 82% of all households; non- Hispanic African Americans made up 6%, Native Americans/Alaska Natives made up 3%, Asians made up 0%, and Pacific Islanders makeup 1%. There are no Hispanics or Latinos living in Ferndale as of the 2010 census. In terms of age group distribution: 27% under the age of 18; 26% from 18 to 24; 21% from 25 to 44; 28% 45 to 64; 5% 65 years or older; 23% who were 65 years or older but did not have a job during the year before their interview for this study. The median home value for a house/condo valued at $183,000 was 8th highest out of 9 towns studied nationwide according to "Zillow". The median household income for a household in Ferndane was $862 compared with $59,444 for households statewide as reported by the US Census Bureau. Males had a median income greater than females ($83 versus $48). Poverty rates were lower than statewide rates (%13%) but higher than Thurston County (%27%). In 2007 only 46 houses/condos were built here which is down from 2006 when we had over 100 homes/condos being built

Ferndale is a town in Clark County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. Ferndale was founded in 1881 by John Ferndale and his wife Eliza Woolridge. The name "Ferndale" was given to the town by General George Armstrong Custer who called it after the fur trade route from British Columbia through Oregon to California that passed through the area on its way to China. The first post office in Ferndale was established on December 12, 1881, and remained open until 1959. The first store in Ferndale was built on Main Street in 1882 by Jethro Taylor and later operated by Julius Auerbach. In 1886, Wm Hanks opened a general store on 82d Avenue Southeast which became one of the most important businesses in town for many years before closing shop in 1991. On February 11, 1907, Ferndale had its first fire when a building belonging to Mrs Barnes caught alight and burned down. In 1911, ferrendalese residents decided to form their own school board so that they could have more control over their education system than what was available from the county school board. This move led to growth of schools within the community with three institutions opening up during 1915-1966: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School (1915), Sacred Heart School (1920), and St Ignatius Loyola High School (1926). In 1925 there were also two small Baptist churches located here; First Baptist Church (founded 1906) merged into St Ignatius Loyola Church circa 1930 while Second Baptist Church opened up about 1955 beside First Baptist Church. Accordingly much progress has been made since then as well as some backsliding including an effort by local Republicans during the 2002 mayoral election to close all but one high school within walking distance of each household - this never happened as only two high schools remain closed today: King's Academy &$/$ ($14 million dollar+ renovation project) and Cascade High School which reopened after being closed for nearly 30 years due to lack of funds following a fire in 1984 which destroyed most of its campus including locker rooms and buses/cafeteria facility.$/$ replaced with new gymnasium/multi-purpose hall/lit tennis courts/rifle range complex that includes world-renowned Aquatics Center
Ferndale was founded in 1854 by James Ferndale and his wife, Harriett. The town became a lumber town after the discovery of extensive logging resources in the area. In 1876, Ferndale incorporated as a city under the name of Olympia. The city experienced rapid growth throughout the 20th century, becoming one of the most populous cities in Washington state. In 1978, Ferndale was renamed King County after then-King County Executive Ron Sims.
