The army was first organized in 1846 and the first unit to arrive in East Wenatchee was the 9th Infantry Regiment. The regiment moved to East Wenatchee in 1861 and served until 1865. In 1880, the 9th Infantry Regiment was redesignated as the 7th Infantry Regiment and served until 1889. In 1897, the regiment was redesignated as the 8th Infantry Regiment and served until 1907. In 1912, the regiment was redesignated as the 5th Infantry Regiment and served until 1916. The regiment then became part of the 49th Brigade Combat Team ofthe First Army from 1916 to 1917.In 1918,the regiment became part ofthe Third Army and it remained there until 1919 when it returned to its original brigade combat team status. From 1919 to 1933,the regiment operated out of Camp Lewis in what is now King County, Washington.From 1933 to 1945,the regiment operated out of Fort Belvoir in Virginia. East Wenatchee, Washington is a small town located in Chelan County, Washington. The population was 1,130 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-Northwest Seattle metropolitan area. The first European to visit East Wenatchee was Captain George Vancouver on October 17th, 1792 when he and his ship HMS Discovery anchored off the shores of present-day East Wenatchee. Vancouver named the spot "Wenatchee" after his home district of Scotland. In 1847, a group of settlers from east side of Puget Sound came to East Wenatchee looking for land to farm. They called their new settlement "Chelan". By 1860, the United States Census had counted 1,827 people living in East Wenatchee with a total value of $2 million dollars (about $98 million today). In 1907 Chelan became an incorporated town and soon after began construction on what would become its first schoolhouse. The building was dedicated on July 10th 1908 by Judge Edward Boren who presided over the incorporation hearing that preceded it. The cornerstone for school #1 was laid by President Theodore Roosevelt on December 2nd 1909 and it opened its doors to students on February 4th 1910. With this first schoolhouse were born many good memories for residents of East Wenatchee including such luminaries as Alice Paul and member Smokey Robinson who both attended School #2 which opened in 1969 just north of current day Utopia Elementary School across from United Methodist Church (now CenturyLink Field). Today there are 7 elementary schools in town with grades PK-12 serving more than 5200 students! One major event which took place during those early days was when Wonder Woman appeared before a crowd at Eastern High School while touring America with her sister Lois Lane in 1943 delivering speeches promoting peace and democracy around the country! That same year saw other famous faces stop by our small town too like Bing Crosby performing at Eastern High’s gymnasium during halftime of an outdoor basketball game; Joe Louis shaking hands with Mayor Steve Hargrave backstage at Eastern High’s gymnasium; actor/director/producer James Stewart landing at our airport after taking a flight from Los Angeles International Airport en route to seegirl scout troops participate in their national convention being held in Spokane; comedian Dean Martin making an appearance at our high school's football game against North Kitsap Junior College...the list goes on and on! It has been said that “East Wenatchee always managed to keep pace with times” even though it has seen some hard times over the years like losing its main water pumping station which happened right after World War II due to budget cuts but also seeing growth through annexation by neighboring towns like North Kitsap and South Kingman as well as becoming one of only two cities within county limits ever granted city status! Today, we continue growing despite all that has gone before thanks largely to donations from individuals, foundations and businesses alike who have given us everything from money for infrastructure repairs to helping support local food production initiatives or simply lending an ear when something needs explaining! The ski resort opened two years later and has continued to grow ever since. Today there are over 20 lifts serving 2,500 customers per day with five distinct skiing areas including six runs covering an average width of .
