The Cheney Air National Guard has been deployed to support America's military allies in the global war on terror since 2001. The unit has supported Operation Enduring Freedom, Iraq and Afghanistan, providing air support to U.S. forces in both countries. The gift history of the Cheney Air National Guard members is reflective of this commitment to service and support multiple missions across the globe. The first deployment of the Cheney Air National Guard was during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. During that campaign, the unit flew more than 2,500 hours supporting coalition forces in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. In 1993, the unit participated in Operation Joint Task Force Southwind, flyinglift duties for Operation Allied Force in Yugoslavia. From 2002-2003, the unit took part in response to 9/11th attacks as a Primary Attack Airlift Squadron (PALS) member of Ninth Air Force RAF at Hever Castle near Salisbury Plain England. PALS provided air refueling and de-orbit services for fighter jets engaged in aerial warfare against terrorist targets throughout North Africa and Europe after September 11th 2001. In total, there have been 6 deployments of the Cheney Air National Guard to support multiple operations around the world: 3 deployments within NORAD airspace; 1 deployment within United Kingdom airspace; 1 deployment outside NORAD airspace; 2 deployments with NATO partners France & Spain; and 1 deployment with partner nation Romania The current Commanding Officer (CO) of the Cheney Air National Guard is Col Benito Gomez who assumed command on July 14th, 2018 from LtCol Craig Aderholt who served concurrently as CO from May 15th thru July 14th 2018 . The current First Lieutenant (1LT) is Austin Sprague who took over from Brendan Smith on July 14 th 2018 . The First Sergeant (FSLN) is Cody Bruschi Jr who served previously under Michael O’Donnell

From 1966 to 1974, he was a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Circuit. In 1974, Cheney became Vice President of the United States under Ronald Reagan and served until 1981. As Vice President, Cheney played an important role in derailing several Democratic-sponsored investigations into possible links between the Reagan administration and Russian intelligence services during his term as president.
