The Bremerton Coast Guard has been providing security and support to the community since 1851. TheBremerton Coast Guard is a part of the Pacific Northwest National Security Region and its mission is to protect maritime interests in the region and ensure that our citizens are safe when traveling through or visiting our waters. The Coast Guard provides ancillary services such as law enforcement, search and rescue, marine mammal detection/caution, coastal erosion control, environmental monitoring, fisheries protection, recreational boating safety and many more. The Bremerton Coast Guard was organized on December 6th, 1851 under the command of Commodore John Waddell. At that time it consisted of only six men. In 1850-1851 Commodore Waddell ordered HMS "Pandora" to supply two coast guard boats with supplies for the new detachment at Port Orchard. On November 1st 1850 eight more man were added to Commodore Waddell's force making a total of twelve officers and men assigned to protectBremerton waterfronts from pirates. In 1861-1862 Commodore George Morrison increased the number of officers working for Bremerton by adding four Assistant Commissioners who commanded three patrol boats each. Bremerton is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The name "Bremerton" was given to it by Captain George Bremer, who explored and named the area in 1853 after his hometown of Bremen, Germany. The first European settlers in Bremerton were Dutchmen who arrived in 1792. They set up a trading post on Puget Sound and conducted extensive shipping operations from their small settlement until 1817 when they abandoned shipwrecked on what is now Point Defiance Island due to strong currents and adverse weather conditions. A group of Norwegian fishermen discovered an island off the coast of Bremerton in 1827 and began to live there until 1830 when they abandoned their settlement because of Indian hostility. Captain John Sellars established an American Fur Trading Post at present-day Point Defiance Island (then called Fort Vancouver) in 1833 while exploring Puget Sound for new fur markets. In 1840, Captain George Bremerton explored Puget Sound for new markets and named the area Bremerton after his German homeland of Bremen. He founded the town on what is now Point Defiance Island about two miles north of where he had foundered his vessel some years earlier during a navigation exercise with local Indians led by Chief Seattle (Creek Nation). When Congress passed legislation authorizing incorporation as a town on March 14,1854, many people from throughout western Washington came east to take advantage of this unique opportunity. bremerTON became one of America's smallest towns with a population that numbered only 350 residents at its peak in 1860 despite being located adjacent to Tacoma and Bellevue; both cities were growing rapidly at that time! Cape Cod's Coast Guard has been providing the necessary resources for coastal communities since 1795. The service has evolved over time and today it is an essential part of the community response to protect life and property. The history of the Coast Guard begins with a small group of men who responded to calls for help from fishermen in 1795. At that time, there were no helicopters or other means of transportation to fly people and supplies off the coast. The men built their first shed on Cape Cod and began ferrying goods back and forth between the island and the mainland. In 1807, a new harbor was built on nearby Martha's Vineyard, which allowed ships to dock without fear of grounding. This development made it possible forthe Coast Guard to provide services that previously would have been impossible. In 1951, the Coast Guard acquired its own vessel, the USS Constitution (LST-512). This patrol vessel became one of Cape Cod's most famous landmarks, serving as a training ground for future Coast Guardsmen and delighting tourists alike during local fishing weeklies. Throughout its history, Cape Cod's Coast Guard has played an important role in keeping our area safe both during peacetime and during times of crisis. Bremerton is a small town in Kitsap County, Washington, located on the Kitsap Peninsula. The population was 8,868 at the 2010 census. Bremerton was founded in 1851 by George W. Bremer and his wife Eliza A. Heckel as a stop on the Seattle- Tacoma Railroad. The town name may be derived from the Native American tribe of that name who inhabited what is now Kitsap County before European settlement began in earnest. The first post office in Bremerton was established in 1851, and it served until 1903. In 1892, bremerton incorporated as a city and has since grown rapidly to become one of the most populous towns in Kitsap County. Additionally, Bremerton is home to several colleges including Pacific University and Washington State University which together have over 41,000 students enrolled across eight campuses. The city also contains several major business districts including Westlake Center and Northshore Marketplace which are both adjacent to downtownBremerton. Bremerton was founded in 1855 by Captain George Bremer and his wife, Anna. It became a port on the Puget Sound region of Washington after becoming a U.S. military post during the American Civil War. The town grew rapidly as naval officers, miners, and farmers moved in to find good land and opportunities for business. In 1907, Bremerton became an incorporated city with a population of 1008 people. It experienced rapid growth through World War II until its peak in the early 1950s when it had a population of over 2,500 people. However, Bremerton's fortunes began to decline after the war ended and economic conditions deteriorated in the 1960s and 1970s. The city's population declined from 2000 to 2001 before dropping below 1000 people again by 2007. However, recent revitalization has led to modest growth over the past decade which is expected to reach 1,000 residents by 2020
