Bonney Lake is a small town in Washington County, located on the shores of Bonney Lake Reservoir. The community had a population of 1,024 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Spokane-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Bonney Lake was John Forbes who arrived in 1854. In 1865, General George Armstrong Custer's unit was quartered here and his wife may have been born here. There were also some American Indian residents at this time. The post office opened in 1868 and was called "Forsyth" until it changed its name to "Bonney" in 1916 when it became part of the Spokane-Tacoma metropolitan area. In 1912, local farmers organized what is now known as the Bonney Lake Agricultural Society which raised potatoes, corn, hay and other crops on their property for sale to consumers in nearby Tacoma or Olympia. The society still operates today as a promoter of agriculture and nature conservation within the BonneyLake community - selling produce from their farm gate through local grocery stores to anyone interested! One early resident who played an important role in establishing Bonney Lake was Arthur Wurzbach who served as Postmaster from 1916-1920 and functionsed as an elderberry grower onsite until his death in 1984. His son Bruce Wurzbach continues that tradition today - monitoring Elderberry production onsite while hosting tastings for guests each summer! A primary source of income for many residents during those years came from fishing with access to the reservoir at its edge providing both sport and subsistence options along with opportunities forcollecting steelhead, bream, catfish, largemouth bass and crappie; however due to changes brought about by state management over time many jobs associated with fishing have disappeared or are now outsourced including those used by setting up artificial reefs! presently there are no commercial fisheries operating within or adjacent to BonnyLake Reservoir making it one of only a few places statewide without commercial fisherman!! A large number of people relocated here during the 1960s based upon major naval exercises taking place offshore (such as Blue Water Exercise) which called for significant housing construction inland; however most everyone left after relatively short periods because there were no available jobs ashore! A few exceptions remain such as Karen Lapp who worked at Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space Company before moving back home in 2003; her husband Fred ran a store/restaurant next door before that too closed down several years ago but Karen plans to keep everything running unchanged inside her house (though she does not sell food!). currently allison riggs lives across street from store but has stopped coming around lately... weird

Bonney Lake is a town in Skamania County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee Valley. The first settler in Bonney Lake was George Trowbridge, who arrived in 1853. The town site was surveyed in 1861 by Captain Charles W. King and named for General John A. Bonney, who had served as Ulysses S. Grant's assistant during the American Civil War and as commander of Fort Stevens on Puget Sound before his death in 1865. A post office was established at Bonney Lake in 1865, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1903. The town name may be derived from " bonny" (a white flower) or "lake" (from ancient Greek καλύς meaning large). In 1876, two brothers built a logging road from Auburn to connect with the main Northern Pacific Railway line nearpresent- day Tacoma; this opened up much of what is now Skamania County to logging activity and helped contribute to the growth of Bonney Lake over time. On July 4, 1907 an act were passed by the Washington State Legislature recognizing that Bonney Lake had become a village under its jurisdiction and ordered all ballots cast there be counted as part of that village's election process; this action set off a series of referendums throughout the state which ultimately resulted inBonneyLake becoming an incorporated city on November 21st 1912 with a population of 812 people
Bonney Lake was first mentioned in 1847 when John Bonney, a prospector, traveled the area looking for new gold fields. He discovered an open valley with green hills in the area and named it after himself. The community rapidly grew from its beginnings and by 1875 had a population of 175 people. In 1899, the town was renamed Bonney Lake after H.L. Bonney, one of its founders. The town continued to grow until World War II when it completely disappeared due to the war effort.
