The Bellingham coast guard gift history goes back to 1926 when the first Coast Guard station was established in the town. From that time until 1975, the Coast Guard operated out of a single building on First Avenue in downtown Bellingham. The Station was torn down in 1975 and replaced by a new facility on Marine Drive. In 2006, the Coast Guard opened a new station at West Point Industrial Park which allowed for more efficient and professional operations. In 2017, the Coast Guard reopened its old facility on First Avenue as their main station again.
Bellingham is a small town in the state of Washington. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and the largest city in King County by population. The Bellingham metropolitan area has a population of over 10 million people. Bellingham's history goes back to 1851 when it was named after Colonel George A. Bell, an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War. In 1876, Bellingham became part of the newly created King County, which merged with neighboring Snohomish County to form what is now King County and Seattle counties. In 1909, Bellingham annexed much of Lower Lakeview Township from Lake View Cemetery to its east side and renamed it Bellingham Heights. The present-day downtown area traces its roots to a survey crew that laid out the town on May 20, 1851. The first store opened in September 1852 on Burrard Street between Second and Third Streets (). By 1861, there were nine stores and eight buildings in downtown including three hotels (the Central Hotel; First National Bank Building; Western Hotel). In 1865, two years before Seattle was founded as an independent city, John Jacob Astor donated land for what would become Fort Lawley Park (now Queen Anne Hill) adjacent to Puget Sound Naval Base just south of downtown Seattle proper on Westlake Avenue North. As part of Astor's gift to Seattle, he also provided money for a public park that would include baseball diamonds (then known as "Athletic Grounds"), running track (then called "Queen Anne Park"), anda schoolhouse/library/gazette office complex across from today's Pioneer Square shopping center (formerly Home Depot). The first schools opened in Downtown: one grade school called Hudson School House on Second Street near Pike Place Market (); one high School called Pacific High School (); one primary school () called Forest Hills Elementary (). Today Downtown includes many large office buildings as well as several smaller shops and restaurants

Bellingham, Washington is a city in King County, Washington. The population was 26,682 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County. The name "Bellingham" was given to the town by General George Vancouver in 1792 while he explored the Puget Sound region. The first permanent settler in what is now Bellingham arrived in 1804 and built a log cabin on land that later became part of the Mount Baker National Forest. In 1851, Bellingham incorporated as a city and soon emerged as an important commercial center due to its location on Puget Sound and its easy access to transportation including ferries from Olympia and Seattle. In 1907, the City of Bellingham annexed portions of neighboring Everett which then had a population of over 30,000 people; making Bellingham one of the largest cities in Washington outside ofSeattle. The growth of downtown Bellevue led to competition for property around Pioneer Square with businesses moving out into Bellevue until annexation gave them more space within downtown limits. In 1912, voters approved annexation of parts of Mercer Island which formed the basis for today's Bellevue neighborhood. This increased business activity throughout Bellevue which led to another boom in population during World War II when many servicemen moved into Bellevue from nearby Tacoma and other areas during wartime production shortages caused by war rationing. After World War II ended, many residents decided they wanted their own city government so they formed a group called "The Citizens' Council", which successfully campaigned for passage of a charter amendment giving Bel-Lieu control over its own school system, police department, fire department and trash collection service rather than being subject to county jurisdiction
The town of Bellingham was founded in 1825 by George Washington and James K. Polk. The population of the town increased to 1,000 in 1830, but declined to 100 in 1850. The first post office was established in 1829. In 1860, the town became an incorporated municipality with a population of 568. In 1916, the town changed its name to Bellingham after becoming part of the United States during World War I. The population peaked at 2,500 in 1950 before declining to 1,200 by 1970.
