Waynesboro is a town in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population was 10,527 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro is the home of West Liberty University and the Waynesboro Volunteer Police Department. It is also the home of Waynesboro High School. The first people to settle in what is now Waynesboro were stone-masons who built a fireplace on an old mill pond in 1792. In 1807, John Fenton bought two hundred acres of land south of downtown for $500 and called it "Fenton's Bottom." He developed it into a small village with stores, churches, blacksmiths and other businesses. In 1814–1815, he built the first school in the village –Methodist Episcopal School – which he named after his daughter Anna Fairfax Fenton. In 1824, President James Kenedy sent General Edmund Kirby Smith to survey survey routes for railroads through Loudoun County. Smith recommended that Route 1 be established as a main thoroughfare from Alexandria through Manassas Junction to Fredericktown eastward to Winchester; this route became known as "Kirby's Road." The town of Waynesboro was platted by Nathan Bedford Forrest on February 9, 1828 (the day before Stonewall Jackson was assassinated). A post office was established atWaynesboro on October 21st, 1830 (the day before Fredrick Douglass delivered his famous speech at Ford’s Theatre). The name "Waynesboro" originated with John Lewis Waynestone who came from Wethersfield Township in Middlesex County and purchased 640 acres near present-day Mount Vernon Place from Colonel Nathaniel Bacon in 1786 for $1 per acre. At that time there were about 20 families living hereabouts and some 60 or 70 buildings including 4 taverns serving beer until 1800 when these licenses were revoked because public drunkenness had become an epidemic among whites only after passage of the Gadsden Purchase Act". The post office operated until 1865 when it was moved to Harrisonburg due toahanDSmail service being available then instead at Harrisonburg where it remained until 1978 when it reopened under US Mail Corporation service as part of their new national mail system expansion program In 1938 WVU established its own football team which played its first game against Randolph-Macon College on October 6th against a scoreless tie On December 3rd WVU won their second straight game 24-6 over Northampton College

Waynesboro, Virginia is a town located in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 9,677 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro was first settled in 1781. The present-day town was founded in 1872 by Nicholas Waynes and his family after they bought land from the Potomac River Native Americans. The town was named for Sir Walter Scott's novel "The Waverley Novels" character James Kirkland Waynes. In 1892, the Washington and Baltimore Railroad built a line through Waynesboro from Frederick to Annapolis. This allowed people to move away from farming backgrounds to more urban lives. By 1915, the railroad had been sold to the Delaware and Hudson Railway Company and it stopped running through Waynesboro. In 1924, the U.S. Post Office moved from its original location on John Street to an new building on Main Street which served as the Town Hall until 1990 when it moved again to its current location on High Street. On October 20th of that year, Governor Alfred Mapp designated Waynesboro as a National Historic Landmark for its role in during World War I (1914-18). Today, Waynesboro is known for its traditional Americana style architecture which is related to other nearby towns such as Manassas Junction and Alexandria: two of which were also designated National Historical Landmarks in 1984 and 1986 respectively . In addition, many local businesses maintain wayneboroughersifesto including an antique store called Antiquities Inc., several restaurants including Joe's Crab Shack & BBQ and Capital Grains Markets; two banks - First National Bank of Northwest Maryland (now HSBC) and PNC Bank - as well as numerous small businesses dotting Route 66 like Big Joe's Drive-in Café; along with churches like Bethel United Methodist Church (founded 1865), Presbyterian church (founded 1786), Holy Cross Lutheran church (founded 1853), Baptist church (founded 1858), Methodist Episcopal church/Church of God in Christ (born 1862) among others . There are also various festivals throughout the year such as Harvest Festival held annually on Saturday afternoons around mid September; Artisan Fair held every fall since 1978 featuring artists from all over region exhibiting their unique art products; Quilt Show each spring - this event attracts hundreds of quilters from across Maryland and Virginia who come together for one day(s) of creation;Christmas Eve cart parade starting at 5pm downtown followed by mass oratory services culminating with dinner at Stroudsburg Inn following at 6pm
Waynesboro was founded in 1788 by George Washington, who named it after his birthplace of Waynesboro, Virginia. The town grew rapidly and by 1800 had a population of over 1,000 people. By 1814, the town had become the capital of West Virginia and its citizens lobbied for secession from the United States. The effort failed but the town became an important center for politics in West Virginia. In 1865, Union General Ulysses S. Grant's army advanced on Waynesboro and killed most of the town's residents during a raid; this event is known as the Battle of Waynesboro. In 1881, Waynesboro was renamed Lynchburg after Richard Lynch, one of President James K. Polk's key advisors and a member of the Senate Committee on Territories and Insular Affairs.
