The Coast Guard was established in 1947 as the United States Coast Guard Reserve. The original mission of the Coast Guard was to protect America's coasts and seas. Today, the Coast Guard provides law enforcement and maritime security services along 13,000 miles of coastline in all 50 states and 3 U.S. Territories. In addition, the Coast Guard operates more than 350 boats and helicopters that provide coastal search and rescue; stop trafficking; respond to emergencies including hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires and natural disasters; support homeland security; generate research for technologies used by the Coast Guard; operate a National Museum of American History in Washington D.C.; provide education through programs like Coastal Security Academy; conduct large-scale events such as parades or music festivals at various locations around America; participate in community outreach projects including Diabetes Patrols and Homeless Outreach Team (HOST). In December 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt activated the United States Coast Guards Reserve to help prepare for World War II. By 1945, there were over 120000 coast guardsmen serving within the Navy and Marine Corps with an additional 7000 coast guardmen activated through separate military authorities such as Air Defense Command (AAC) responsible for airports across America. As World War II progressed both militaries grew larger while members of the Reserve continued their active service until 1946 when they were first allowed back into full duty with no time off between deployments! After V-E Day in 1945 many men from coast guard units who had seen active service during World War II decided that it was time to retire on full pay which happened on May 1st 1946! This left many men who had served throughout WWII without any retirement benefits so they reverted back to their former job classification which is now called “active duty” status! Today, we continue to see men from all walks of life join up with our nation’s marine forces as members of our coast guard unit! Some have served multiple deployments while others have only been deployed once but they all share one common goal – fulfilling our country’s emergency response needs!

Virginia Beach is an incorporated town in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. The population was 136,723 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Richmond– Petersburg, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town's motto is "The Friendly Place". The first people to live in what is now Virginia Beach arrived during the late 18th century and early 19th century from England and Wales. There are several theories about why the area became known as "Virginia Beach." One theory suggests that Captain John Smith discovered a beach on Roanoke Island while exploring for new land in 1719, and named it Virginia after his home country of England. Another theory suggests that General George Washington sighted a large group of white people living on Chesapeake Bay and thought they were Indians because their clothing looked Indian-like. Consequently, he called them "the Virginians" instead of English settlers who had already arrived there. In 1814, Colonel James Longstreth developed what would become known as First Townsite at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Hampton Roads near Norfolk. When Congress passed the Morrill Act in 1862 which authorized land grants to colleges and universities across America, First Townsite was among those receiving parcels of land. In 1865, when Confederate General Robert Ewell tried unsuccessfully to cross Hampton Roads using a pontoon boat during his drive towards Norfolk Harbor, Ulysses S Grant ordered artillery fire onto the pontoon bridge leading into Norfolk Harbor from Wading River Point onupper Chesterfield Peninsula to prevent him from reaching Norfolk without being detected by Union forces ashore During World War II many miles of coastal property were destroyed or used for naval bases such as Fort Monroe and Newport News Navy Yard; however much intact shoreline remains today including parts of Boardwalk (now called Oceanfront Boulevard), Monument Point (formerly Reach Marina), North Quogue Road (formerly Middle Quogue Road), Cedar Point Park Golf Course & Resort (now Eastern Shore Parkway) and others Governor Robert Fenton appointed a committee which recommended that First Townsite be annexed by Arlington County in 1924 due to its size and importance as a naval base with an estimated population then of 508 residents In 1938 local businessmen Harry Burnett Jr., Jack Courson & Earl Kemp began developing ideas for creating what would eventually become Marine Drive which runs parallel through First Townsite center forming one block off Interstate 95 between Newport News Naval Shipyard waterfront marina & Lynchburg Regional Airport - just south of where present day Veterans Affairs Medical Center stands today Barker Hall located off Marine Drive served as both community center & high school until demolished in 1965 when general store moved into building now occupied by Doctors Hospital

The Coastal Guard Auxiliary provides unarmed personnel who are available 24/7 for aid from local law enforcement and citizens. Additionally, the Department of Homeland Security operates two coast guard stations along our coastline- one at New London, Connecticut and another at Point Reyes Station, California- which are manned by members of both agencies year round.

Today, Virginia Beach is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Virgin Islands and is known for its beautiful beaches and historical landmarks.
