The United States Navy has deployed gift history in Staunton, Virginia for more than 150 years. The USS Constitution (1797-1865) was the first U.S. Navy ship to be stationed in Hampton Roads and is now a museum. He was searching for a way to stop French forces off Long Island before they could defend British soil against an invasion by France. Commodore Rodgers decided that this would be an opportunity to learn about naval warfare and brought ashore officers who would teach him how to run his ship effectively in battle situations. Staunton, Virginia is a small town located in west central Virginia. The population was 3,587 at the 2010 census and 3,853 according to the 2016 Census. It is part of the Lynchburg-based West Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1751 byCaptain James Ewing and two other settlers on what is now Mount Vernon Island. The first permanent settler arrived in 1770 and named it after Lord Staunton, an English nobleman who had financed the expedition that found America. In 1775, General George Washington visited Staunton while campaigning against British forces in Maryland and was inspired to become an American general because he saw how well-organized and efficient the local militia were. In 1815, Captain John Brown led a group of settlers from Staunton on their famous raid into neighboring Wayne County to free slaves held by white farmers there. For this act of heroism, they were rewarded with land grants that allowed them to build homes and businesses around Mount Vernon Island. In 1814–1815, Captain Robert Ewing led another group of settlers from Staunton on their unsuccessful attempt to stage a successful invasion of Canada during the War for Independence. The town's namesake came about due to its location on Catoctin Creek which flowed through it at one time; however, this waterway has since been diverted elsewhere. Today's main thoroughfare runs along US 1 just outside of town limits (westbound). One notable landmark located within town limits is Mount Vernon Cemetery where President George Washington lies buried along with his wife Martha Randolph Keyes and four other United States presidents: James Ketchum (1809-1892), Zachary Taylor (1841-1912), Franklin D Roosevelt (1933-1945), Harry S Truman (1945-)

Staunton, Virginia is located in the Shenandoah Valley on the eastern edge of Virginia. The town was founded by James Covington in 1781 and became a stop on the Underground Railroad. The town was destroyed in 1814 by Union General Robert E. Lee during his Confederate siege of Richmond, but it re-emerged as an agricultural center after the war and has remained that way ever since. In 1905, Staunton became an incorporated city and has continued to grow at a rapid pace ever since. Today, the city is home to over 60,000 people and constitutes one of the most populous cities in VA. The history of Staunton begins with its founding by James Covington in 1781. Covington was a soldier from Ireland who came to America to find his fortune and found himself penniless when he arrived here. He decided to settle here permanently and started farming what would become known as "Covingtonsville". At first, CovingTON operated a small farmstead which he shared with his family and friends. However, soon enough, he began attracting settlers who were looking for land near Petersburg due to its strategic location within easy reach of Washington D.C.. In 1792, CovingTON built the first store in what would become known as "Staunton". In 1814, while besieged by General Robert E. Lee's Confederate forces inside Richmond (now Charlottesville), Staunton suffered heavy damage including loss of property and human life (possibly up to 100). Nevertheless, thanks largely to donations from local inhabitants such as Mr & Mrs Hargrave (the first white female residents of Staunton) reconstruction began almost immediately following this terrible event which employed many local citizens including Dr John Browning also responsible for rebuilding Charlottesville thereafter into one of the most thriving cities on American soil during that time period - if not more so than any other major city across country! Today's economy remains highly diversified with manufacturing facilities located throughout central VA; however agriculture continuesto be the dominant economic sector contributing nearly 60%of total economic output according To The FBI report “VA” Economic Development Report 2017 released recently! Staunton was founded in 1757 by Lt. Col. George Washington and his aide, Major James Langston. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the James River and its rich soil. In 1801, Staunton became the capital of Virginia. The town experienced a period of prosperity during the 19th century thanks to its growth in business and industry, as well as itsposition on the route between Richmond and Petersburg. However, following the American Civil War, Staunton declined economically due to political factors (such as voting rights being restricted to residents of Richmond), although it continued to grow gradually until it reached its peak population in 1925. During World War II, Staunton played an important role in the war effort with its strategic position along the Potomac River and access to military supplies
