The Poquoson Valley Infantry Battalion was a unit of the United States Army that served in World War I and World War II. The battalion was established on December 15, 1917 in Poquoson, Virginia as Company D, Ninth Regiment Infantry (7th Infantry Brigade). On November 11, 1918 the battalion was redesignated as the 7th Infantry Regiment, Poquoson Valley Infantry Battalion. The regiment disbanded on October 1, 1952. On December 15, 1917 in Poquoson, Virginia the Valley infantry battalion was constituted as Company D., Ninth Regiment Infantry (7th Infantry Brigade). The regiment's history dates back to 1916 when it was organized as part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the First Division at Camp Lee and deployed to Europe. Upon arriving in France, the battalion fought with distinction in April and May 1916 against German forces at Maastricht and shell-fire from Lens killed or wounded over 100 officers and men of Company D. In September 1916Company D returned to America for rest and training before departing for France again two months later. After several months deployment company arrived at Beaumont-en-Brie on October 1st 1916 where they were joined by elements from Companies A & B from Connecticut National Guard who had volunteered to serve in France under General Pershing's command. In early November 1916 Major John J. Slattery assumed command of Company D after Major Lewis Fenton resigned due to illness; he would remain Commanding Officer until his death on January 12, 1919 during battle near Arras while leading his unit against French forces commanded by Philippe Pétain; Captain Slattery would become first SergeantMajor upon taking command which he held until his retirement on July 1st 1922 after service with the regiment totaling nearly 38 years including 10 out of 12 years spent overseas with WWI missions including 3 deployments abroad with CoD being activated Nov 28 1918 thru Mar 6 1919 along mountain front then demobilized Oct 16 1920) At present there are still living members Of this valiant unit who have Honorably Served our Country Indoors And Abroad!

Poquoson is a small town in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 8,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Poquoson's history dates back to 1777 when Governor John Peter Zenger sent five men from Poquoson to established a trading post on the Rappahannock River in present-day Northern Virginia. The Town of Poquoson was chartered on December 12, 1777 by George Washington as one of his initial townships in North Carolina and it was officially incorporated as a town on April 1, 1800 by General James Ewell with the name "Poquoson". Poquoson grew rapidly during this time and by 1826 had become an important commercial center for eastern Fairfax County with its own school system and courthouse. In 1854, the original courthouse burned down and was replaced by another structure which still stands today. During World War II, Poquoson became one of 10 villages located within proximity to Fort McHenry National Monument and Museum due to its strategic location between Washington D.C.–Marion County–Innovation Ridge Air Force Base and Norfolk Naval Shipyard – becoming an important supplier of goods needed for the war effort such as munitions and aluminum products. One ofPoquosons earliest industries was shipbuilding which continued until 1945 when all boats were destroyed in a storm that struck the town while they were being built offshore at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Roanoke Island VA.. Today there are only two remaining buildings from these days including a museum which tells the story of local shipbuilding through exhibits and oral histories along with access to restored items from both periods including tugboats used during WWII (now moored outside) as well as replica ships docked at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Visitor Center; both open daily 9am-4pm Closed Wednesdays & holidays

Poquoson is a small town located in Prince George's County, Virginia. The population was 1,830 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Statistical Area. Poquoson was established in 1771 as an early French settlement on Roanoke Island and named for Pierre-Jacques Poquoson, Sieur de la Tour d'Aigle. In 1802, it became the capital of Prince George's County and has been its legal seat since that time. The first store in Poquoson opened in 1792 and the first post office was established in 1807. The first school opened in 1815 and the first hospital was built in 1837. The present courthouse was erected in 1917 and dedicated by Governor Francis Wise Jr.. The town redefined itself as a tobacco farming community after taxes were raised to support education within Prince George's County during the mid-19th century. Tobacco production boomed over subsequent decades until it began to decline around 1930 due to increased competition from other agricultural products such as corn and soybeans. However, Poquoson has continued to be a center for tobacco production through recent years with several new businesses being founded including a distillery and cigar factory. Today, Poquoson is known for its wide variety of retirees living accommodations which include many single family homes dating back to the 1800s; antique stores; two golf courses (one beingPoquoson Country Club), restaurants including a local farmers market every weekend throughout summer months; three churches (two Southern Baptist) with services also taking place throughout the year;and two libraries which are open Monday through Friday 9 am - 5 pm & Saturday 9 am - 4 pm
Popeston was founded by Captain John Pope in 1748. It was named for Father Gabriel Pope, the founder of the Catholic missions in Virginia. The town grew rapidly around the post office, flour mills, and store. In 1824, Popeston became an independent village and had a school, library, and a few stores. The population reached over 500 by 1851.
