In 1860, Nicholaso Caruso started brewing his own coffee at his home on Beale Street. In 1886, Frederick Waring opened what is now called Waring & Son Coffee House on North Market Street near Third Avenue South. This business became one of the most popular caffeine shops in Petersburg until it closed its doors around 1990 because of regulations put into place during the late 1980s as part of efforts to control air pollution levels within city limits.

Petersburg, Virginia is a small town in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. It is located on the southern border of West Virginia and Maryland. As of the 2010 census, its population was 9,752. The downtown area is home to the Petersburg Municipal Airport and several shopping districts. Petersburg was founded in 1793 by Captain George Washington and his small band of settlers as a stop on their journey from Mount Vernon to Beijing. In 1814, it was incorporated as a village and became part of Frederick County when that county was created from western Loudoun County. In 1861, it became part of VA during the American Civil War because Richmond would not recognize Confederate States Of America (CSA) bonds issued by Petersburg residents. In 1865, Petersburg lost its status as a borough when it merged with Covington to become Petersburg-Covington Borough. It reverted to borough status in 1969 when Covington repealed its ordinance setting forth borough government responsibilities which had been granted unto Petersburg by then-Borough President James Buchanan in 1867 while he represented VA in Congress under the Unionist Party coalition that included pro-Union Virginian John Fordsville. The primary economic activity in recent years has been manufacturing although there are also some restaurants and stores sprinkled throughout the village center economy due largely to annexation into Kingdom County since 2005 along with other smaller municipalities within Kingdom County which have joined forces with Petersburg for marketing purposes since then as well - making this municipality one big business district if you will (although still quite rural).
