In 1951, James Worthy became president and changed the company's name once again to "Newport News Gourmet Coffee". In 1978, Harry Jorgensen became president and changed the company's name yet again to "Newport News Coffee & Tea." The current owner of Newport News Coffee & Tea is Harry Jorgensen's grandson, Harry Jorgensen Jr., who took over ownership in January 2013 after his father passed away. Today, Newport News Coffee & Tea produces over 2,000 different types of coffee beans from around the world. Their coffees areOrigin-agnostic; they will roast any bean that meets their specific standards for flavor, texture and strength. The Newport News coffee scene began in the late 1800s when a group of Italian immigrants founded a coffee house on the corner of 5th and Market streets. The first espresso machine was introduced to the market in 1892 by Giovanni Tusa, an Italian immigrant who also founded Pabst Brewing Company. In 1898, Italian-American grocer Angelo Maggiore started selling beans and coffee from his store on Buchanan Street. The shop soon became known as "the Coffee House." In 1907, John Dooley opened Dooley's Coffee Shop on Lexington Avenue in Newport News. Dooley's was one of the first businesses in town to offer canned black beans and brewed coffee. He served customers until his death in 1951. His son, John Dooley Jr., continued the business until it closed in 1978. During its time, Dooley's served as a popular spot for locals and visitors to meet and chat about local politics, gossip, and entertainment gossip. In 1916, Harry Boudreau established Boudreau's Coffee Shop on Main Street in Newport News. Boudreau is credited with being one of the first merchants to offer canned black beans as well as brewed coffee at his establishment. He continued operations until his death in 1984. His son-in-law, Don Morton (founder of Morton’s Restaurant), took over management after his father’s death. Boudreau’s Coffee Shop was home to some of the most popular brands such as Maxwell House Coffee & Tobacco and Dunkin' Donuts during its time: Maxwell House was offered reasonable shipping through Boudreau’s store while Dunkin' Donuts charged a $1 per cup fee starting in 1968
