The major producers of coffee are Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Kenya, roastmaster coffees from Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts as well as dark roasts from Peet's Coffee Company and Dutch-owned Koffiekopje.
The first coffee shop in Newport News was the Coffee House, which opened in 1887. It is still open and serving its original java on-site today. The store also served as a meeting place for the local community and played an important role in developing the town. In 1916, a coffee mill was built in Newport News by Wm. Henson and Sons. The mill produced 5 to 6 thousand pounds of coffee each day. In 1951, J.B. Brown & Sons became the first coffee company to open up shop in Newport News when they bought out Wm Henson's business. They continued to serve quality coffee until 1985 when they closed their doors forever due to financial difficulties.
