The original Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf was founded by owner/operator Harry Kessler and wife Elsie Decker in 1951. The business served coffee and tea from a small storefront on North Fairfax Street. Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf continued to operate for more than 50 years until it closed its doors in 2006. But that didn’t mean the store wasn’t remembered! In 2007, Kessler donated all of his profits from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to help start the George Washington University's School of Business Administration. In 1814, John Davis abducted two Superintendent of Schools females from Manassas Park after they had walked to provide information about a slave rebellion going on near Alexandria. When news spread that these women were safe, many residents began to come back to live in the area around Manassas Park. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell attacked Union forces at Bull Run Bridge inside of Manassas Park and captured over 500 soldiers including Lieutenant Colonel James Longstreet who would later become one of America's most famous generals during World War II. This event helped spur Congress to pass the Thirteenth Amendment which granted African Americans citizenship on July 6th, 1870.
