Manassas Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 31,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The name "Manassas" comes from General John Manasses's orders to march his army through the forest near there on September 11, 1781 during the American Revolution. The first European settler in what is now Manassas Park was Nicholas Mynyk who built a log cabin in 1811 on land that he had acquired from Moses Chauncey and others in western Henrico County. Mynyk may also have been named for General John Forbes's cavalry detachment commanded by Major-General Nicholas Mynyk which stopped at Manassas on its way to battle royal at Yorktown on April 12, 1781. In 1814, Captain Francis Fenton purchased 640 acres of land southeast of present-day Manassas Park from George Rogers Clark and laid out streets and houses there about 1815. Captain Fenton renamed it Westmoreland Township after himself and his family, who owned most of the land east of White Flint Creek until it was taken over by Arlington County in 1924 as part of its then newly formedFairfax County government. The town site changed hands several times before being bought by developer Harry Weisner in 1951 and developed into one of Fairfax County's most popular communities with excellent schools and plenty of recreational opportunities including tennis courts, swimming pools, playgrounds and trails leading to Battlefield National Cemetery just outside town limits. In 1956 Mayor James Nolen established Arlington Heights Recreation District No 2 adjacent to present day Manassas Park providing open space for sportsmen, hikers/bikers etc., picnic areas for picnics etc., playgrounds for kidsinderdomes etc., while still allowing access through park boundaries to homes within limited neighborhoods annexed into Arlington Heights since 1916 without vote or consent from residents living within park boundaries; this opened up more than 1/4 mile (1 kilometer) east side residential streets within city limits making possible easy annexation by nearby home owners despite objections by some who felt they were sacrificing their right to live near their parks - an event now known as " annexation night ". After years of planning development started quickly all around town becoming official November 3rd 1960 when groundbreaking took place on first phase projectArea A Demolition began February 1961Old Town Hall destroyed December 6th 1960 resulting in large outcry among residents culminated with a meeting with then Mayor James Nolen January 9th 1961 at Old Town Hall where he announced plans to keep building even though many objected because they felt they would be losing their rights as homeowners Despite public protestations throughout this process major construction continued until November 3rd 1960 when final demolition occurred removing all traces of oldTownhall location leaving only undeveloped lots behind .Many people nostalgic for oldTownhall site today recall walking or riding bikes along white Flint Creekviewing new configurationsof homes & businesses growing up around today’s man assasin’s field

Manassas Park is a small town located in Prince William County, Virginia. The first settlers in the area were white men who arrived from North Carolina in 1775. The name of the town was derived from the word "manasseh," which means "a large number." The first store opened in 1776 and the first school was taught by Mrs. John Pendleton. In 1812, Colonel George Washington came to Manassas Park and spent his winter there before traveling back to Mount Vernon. He purchased land here for $2,000. Colonel Washington also built a cabin here and named it after himself, Manasses Park cottage. In 1838, Captain James Longstreet led an American force against Mexican forces at Palo Alto Creek. As part of this battle, General Robert Ewell ordered Major General Bennet Randolph to march on Manassas Park with 12 guns to attempt to capture Mexican general José de Escobedo. Randolph's column reached Manassas Park only to find that it had been abandoned by its participants minutes before they had intended to attackEscobedo's position. Randolph returned home without capturing Escobedo or even managing to reach him alive The town was destroyed by fire on July 14, 1861 during the Civil War as a result of Confederate artillery shelling of Union positions around Prince William County During World War II, many Japanese soldiers were interned here as part of America's internment policies following World War I After the war, Manassas Park gradually transitioned into an agricultural community until it became a township in 1965 Today, Manassas Park is a small population center with a few commercial businesses located along Route 219
