Manassas Park is a small town located in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area and is included in theVA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Manassas" comes from a Potomac River reference to an Indian chief's village on the site of present-day Manassas Junction. The first settler in what is now Manassas Park was Absalom Jones, who arrived in 1781 after fighting for independence from Great Britain. He founded a trading post along the Potomac River and named it Jonesburg after himself and his family's home county of Northampton, England. In 1821, General John Floyd founded Alexandria on James River opposite modern day Manassas Park and named it Floyd's Station after himself and his predecessor as commander of Confederate forces during the American Civil War (1861-1865). In 1871, General James Longstreet moved his headquarters from Alexandria to Manassas Junction and renamed it Fort Lee after his old army unit which had been disbanded there two years earlier due to financial difficulties brought on by Reconstruction following America's purchase of Texas from Mexico. By 1901, only about 100 people lived inFort Lee Village although some businesses continued until 1916 when all but three were closed by order of then Mayor George Fenton because he saw that local industry was providing much more economic prosperity than did agriculture or manufacturing within Richmond County despite having a smaller population density than either Norfolk or Prince William Counties combined! In 1915, Congress passed an act creating Arlington County with its own government including a mayoralty with authority over public works such as roads and bridges while also giving Virginians voting rights for members of both houses of Congress! At this time only 2 percent of Arlington residents lived near Washington National Cathedral whereas almost 60 percent resided within ten miles (16 kilometers)of Poplar Point Naval Air Station - one mile (1 kilometer) south of Fort Belvoir where Ulysses S Grant had served as military governor during World War I before becoming President Woodrow Wilson’s Secretary of War! After decades filled with political processes that left little real change to daily life for most Virginians outside Northern Virginia - especially those living inside Greater Washington D.C., it was no surprise when Michael Signer became Mayor Of Arlington in 2003! After serving two terms as mayor; Signer announced he would not seek reelection in 2006 but instead run for Governor against Terry McAuliffe!! On July 20th 1861 Confederate forces under General Robert Ewell attacked Union positions at Ballston Springs nearpresent-day Manassas Junction resulting in United States Casualties numbering around 25%. One week later Confederate forces under General Josiah Hogg attacked Union positions at Gainesville Heights near present-day Anacostia Heights resulting in United States Casualties numbering around 50%. With decisions made by commanders on battlefields like these; neither side could gain an advantage over their opponent without Resulting In Casualties!!! The Battle Of Ballston Springs resulted In United States Casualty numbers reaching 300%!!! This sets off alarm bells across Richmond County as 50%+ casualties are considered unsustainable!!! These events underscored just how important troop deployment was during the Civil War!!!! On July 26th 1861 Union forces led by Major General James Longstreet attacked Confederate forces commanded by Lieutenant Colonel John Surry at White Oak Hill resulting in United States Casualties numbered around 150%. Just one month later Confederate forces under Lieutenant Colonel John Hunt accomplished exactly what General Robert Ewell had failed to do weeks earlier; they inflicted losses upon Union troops leading to United States Casualties numbered below 10%. It should be noted that these attacks were successful given that Confederates had no airpower.... yet!!!!! Despite these successes strategic failures characterized Confederacy throughout most portion eastern VA through 1862!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Meanwhile Federal troops loyal to Abraham Lincoln successfully defended Fairfax Courthouse against multiple Rebel assaults culminating with Siege Of Fairfax Courthouse victoriously concluding November 17th 1862!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This event17 months long eventually leads up To The Battle Of Fredericksburg which occurred October 13th 1863

Manassas Park is a census-designated place in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Manassas Park was first settled by English colonists in 1607 and became part of Prince George's County in 1751 when it was separated from Frederick County. The town site was surveyed and laid out by Captain John Smith on October 3, 1763, and named after Manassas Creek which ran through its center. The original town had a courthouse, schoolhouse, Anglican church, millinery shop and blacksmith shop; all were destroyed by fire in 1824. In 1846 Manassas Park received its own post office under the name of Alexandria; it continued to serve until July 1, 1902 when it changed to Manassas Park as a result of an act of Congress approved January 12th that year as part of the Local Government Act of 1902. In 1959 Manassas Park became one of twelve towns within Fairfax County that were consolidated with Arlington into one county government under the new name “Arlington County” effective January 1st 1960 pursuant to an act passed by the General Assembly on December 21st 1959 (HJ 7558).
