The Lynchburg Coast Guard has been providing security and protection to the community since 1919. The coast guard is made up of a variety of volunteer personnel, including cadets, civilians, law enforcement officers, and firefighters. The coast guard provides support for many local events throughout the year as well as providing search and rescue services in times of hurricanes or other emergencies. In addition to its duties as a safety net for the community, the coast guard also helps preserve our coastline by removing debris from beaches and shorelines.

The present day coast guard is one of the oldest and most important law enforcement organizations on the East Coast. The coast guard provides security for coastal communities, helps protect against piracy and terrorism, and responds to emergencies such as hurricanes.
Lynchburg, Virginia is a town located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 154,155. The Lynchburg metropolitan area has a population of 2.5 million and is home to five counties: Bedford, Fairfax, Prince Georges, Smyth and Tyler. The townships of Brookeville and Manassas are also within the city limits of Lynchburg. The first Europeans to visit what is now Lynchburg were Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on their way from Missouri through Kentucky to reach St Louis in 1803. They were followed by John Sevier in 1804 when he explored lands west of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Captain James Hogg led an expedition against the Shawnees in 1810 while General Robert Ewell commanded an army against them at Winchester that year. In 1812 President James Kapp recommended that General Andrew Jackson build Fortieth Parallel (later called Fort Monroe) on land donated by Colonel Isaac Brown near present-day Green Street and River Road in order to protect US traders shipping into British waters during the War of 1812. An artillery battery was built at Fort Monroe in 1814 but it was destroyed by fire three years later due to bad management by Jackson’s successor as president, Martin Van Buren. The town began growing rapidly because soldiers returning from service brought new families with them and construction stopped for several years because money was needed for military expenses instead In 1793 Colonel Arthur Lee founded Lynchburg Academy which became one of America’s leading colleges In 1800 John Marshall founded Mechanics Institute which became one of America’s most esteemed schools for learning trades In 1800 Reverend George Washington came to preach Christianity in what is now Lynchburg The United States Congress moved from Philadelphia to Richmond in 1789 so they could be closer to both state legislatures George Washington died on April 14, 1799 without leaving any children so his widow Martha moved with her two daughters into Mount Vernon where she lived until her death on October 15, 1840 On February 12, 1865 Confederate General Jubal Early forced his way into Farmers Branch House near modern day Green Street where he sacked some Union troops before being recaptured two days later Judge Advocate General Gouverneur Morris ordered major-general Philip Sheridan’s Brigade commanders not fires any cannons or fight if they encountered Early but this order was ignored and 1st Maryland Infantry Regiment fought gallantly under officers including future Ulysses S Grant who reported that “the result would have been very different had we encountered him unarmed” On July 9–10 1865 Confederate Brigadier General Alexander McClellan attacked Johnson's Store on Yorktown Peninsula after orders from general Johnston not fire any artillery unless it faced imminent danger McClellan's attack failed because his brigade commander forbade firing without orders From this experience learned that orders should always be obeyed even if they are contrary to personal feelings or career objectives After slavery ended there were many groups trying to start their own country such as planters who wanted slaves freed but found out about laws passed by Congress catch 22 situation: slaveowners couldn't own slaves themselves but needed someone else's permission free people couldn't get free till their owner diedfree blacks tried various ways starting with Underground Railroad running away West Virginia & points east Free black agriculturalists started planting pine trees sweet gum trees etc.- these activities raised money for help getting freedom Free blacks working underground got food & clothing + education provided

Today, the Coast Guard operates more than 5,000 vessels and employs over 43,000 people across six different service branches. Thanks to modern technology and advancements in maritime safety, the Coast Guards have become one of America’s most popular gifts. The earliest known references to a coast guard gift are from 1810 when texts from New York City noted that “one ship has lately sent ashore on Long Island a quantity of goods for the use of the men on shore”. In 1814, Captain John Smith wrote in his journal that he had received “a number of presents from several parts of this country…several nice pistols (and two shotguns) with provision for their use”. By 1817, gifts were being given regularly to members of both the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard as part of saltation festivities celebrating American independence. Beginning in 1829, gifts began arriving regularly through mail as part of special occasions such as Christmas or New Year's Eve. Gifts became increasingly personalized over time with greater emphasis on maritime safety while also incorporating objects related to coastal life such as boat anchors, sextants and moorings cables. Many times these gifts were donated by local businesses or individuals who appreciated the efforts made by the Coast Guard in keeping our waterways safe for all types of vessels and passengers alike. In 1942, during World War II donations came into play as many Sailors lost their lives at sea because they could not carry necessary supplies ashore for war effort purposes only textiles like bras could be transported ashore but nothing else heavy or bulky like ammunition could be brought off shore due to naval regulations at that time called "The Canaries". So a group was formed within Headquarters Command (HQCOM) called The Gift Shop Committee which collected any type gilts we could find inside navy yards along with any articles needed such as tools or equipment needed for harbor construction etc., We got Together some weeks ago and started shipping them off today I am sure we will receive something soon from each state represented here In 1949-1952 Coastal Security Command began sending items directly to member stations rather then through HQCOM which limited options available due mainly to WWII shortages caused by rationing however still many items were delivered including radios , Binoculars & Sextants . This was later changed so Items going out now go through an intermediary called The Maritime Supplies Group which is based out of Norfolk Va . They package it up very carefully & take pride in doing what they call a 'smart' shipping job making sure everything arrives alive but we do get some broken things occasionally so keep your fingers crossed Each year since then there has been an event commemorating something specific about those years such as 50 Years since 1953..
