Hopewell is an unincorporated community in Caroline County, Virginia. The population was 1,589 at the 2010 census. Its ZIP code is 22422. It is located near the Hopewell Gap National Recreation Area. The first people to live in what is now Hopewell were farmers and their animals who brought over plants and seeds from nearby Canada in 1824. Over time, more people arrived, including a group of Methodists who built a church in 1835. The town started to take off when a road was cut through the woodlands just east of the town by James Waring and his brothers-in-law in 1859. By 1865, Hopewell had a store, schoolhouse, and two churches. In 1861 Colonel Robert Ewell established Confederate headquarters at Hopewell after driving out Union forces from the area. After the Battle of Fort Donelson (1863), General George B McClellan ordered all Confederate forces to move out of Virginia except for Hopewell which stayed until 1865 because it was under military jurisdiction. After the war ended, most of the buildings were destroyed by termites but some have been restored and are used as homes today among other things such as a museum on Main Street that tells about life in hopeville during those times

This group became known as The Continental Navy Department's First Battalion Light Artillery Regiment - later renamed The Portsmouth Volunteer Infantry Regiment - under Major General Nathanael Greene on November 12th of that year! In 1807 Connecticut took over responsibility for Hampton Roads Naval Station from Virginia Beach County; this gave rise to song "When We Shookhands with Virginians" which began playing at naval stations all along America'seast coast! It wasn't until 1916 when Congress passed An Act To Establish A Militia Upon Our coasts For Public Defence Which Led To The creation Of The U S Customs Service!
