The USS Constitution ( Flagship ) was the first ship in the United States Navy to be deployed on active duty. The Constitution served as flagship of Commodore John Rodgers' squadron during the War of 1812. On July 11, 1814, she sailed from Hampton Roads with a force of about 240 men and women under command of Rear Admiral John Smith. She arrived off Long Island on July 26th and supported General George Washington's army as it attempted to rout the British forces at Saratoga. The Constitution was then converted into an ambulance ship for service in the American Civil War. She served from 1865-1868 as flagship of Commodore Matthew Perry's expedition to Japan. In 1922 she was reactivated and decommissioned at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before being struck from Naval Vessel Register on September 1st, 1923
Hampton, Virginia is a small town in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. The town was founded by James Scott in 1792 and has been occupied by humans since the early Pleistocene period. Hampton is located on the banks of the Rappahannock River, east of Waverly, and west of Charlottesville. As of the 2010 census, Hampton had a population of 597 residents. Prior to its founding by James Scott, Hampton was inhabited by two other tribes: the Powhatan and the Chickamauga. The Powhatan were driven out by English colonists in 1607 and their village was destroyed near present-day Portsmouth. The Chickamauga were also displaced after they were routing British forces at Battle of Musgrove Gap in 1701. The first European to visit Hampton was Captain John Smith on July 4, 1792. He arrived with his party from Botetourt County in Staffordshire England and encampment lay at what is now known as Princess Anne's Heights onpresent-day Woolridge Drive. At that time it comprised only about 10 acres (4 ha). In 1800 General George Washington visited Hampton during his unsuccessful attempt to unsuccessfully launch an invasion against Richmond,Virginia on May 14th of that year. On October 12th 1801 President Thomas Jefferson made an official visit to Hampton when he set forth for Petersburg Peninsula via Harrisonburg then returning via Yorktown Bridge over Rappahannock River before visiting Mount Vernon southward along I-64 corridor between Lexington/Fayette County Kentucky and West Virginia before returning home on November 6th 1801 en route to Williamsburg Landing where he disembarked at Yorktown Ferry just below Newport News Shipbuilding Yard where he crossed over into Virginia soil for good - one day after John Adams had landed there too! 2 years later in 1804 troops under Major General Anthony Wayne burned down part of Village Green following a skirmish with Native Americans while mounted men led torchlight rides through what is now Princess Anne's Heights during night raids called "the Raids". This event marked beginning days leading up to American Revolutionary War which lasted more than 2 decades characterized by many bloody battles including Battles Of Saratoga (September 27,1777), Yorktown (May 4th–5th1899) And Gettysburg (July 1st1962) eventually resulting in humiliating British surrender at Appomattox Courthouse April 9th 1865 effective date four days prior American Civil War ended

Hampton is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 13,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baltimore–Washington Metropolitan Area and the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area. Hampton is located on Accomack River between Princess Anne Island and Point Lookout Island. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Prince George's County were three men from England who landed on Accomack Island in 1624: John Smith, Robert Johnson, and James Oglethorpe. After two years of exploring the area they arrived at what would become Hampton on December 10, 1625. They named their new settlement after Lord Montagu's home county of Hampshire in England; however most likely this naming was not actually done with any knowledge about where Montagu lived or what his title actually was (Montagu had died before the landing). In 1754 an act was passed by the General Assembly to establish "a proprietary colony for developing this country" named "Hampton." This colony became one of the largest ever established within America; it grew to more than 2,000 acres (8 km2) by 1800. In 1808 Congress passed an act that restored Hampton as a separate town with its own government and courts system within King William's County outside of Baltimore City proper. In 1861 when Maryland seceded from Unionism followingthe American Civil War Hamptons residents voted overwhelmingly to stay in Union lines but Confederate troops burned down their homes and stores two days later duringOperation Crossroads which targeted Union supporters living near present day Point Lookout Road and Accomack Sound Naval Base on April 9th 1865.
Hampton was founded in 1624 by Sir George Hampton and named for the Hampton River. In 1773, it was made a parish within the small town of Norfolk. In 1801, Hampton became an independent town and in 1853 it amalgamated with the neighboring town of Norwich to form the current municipality of Norfolk. The population of Norfolk increased rapidly after World War II due to immigration, so much so that in 1951 Norfolk incorporated as a city.
