Falls Church, Virginia is a town located in Falls Church County, Virginia. The population was 46,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Falls Church County. Falls Church is part of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Falls Church was founded in 1775 by Francis Scott Key and James Madison as a small town on James River near today's Arlington Cemetery. The town grew rapidly during the antebellum period due to its location on the Shenandoah Valley Railroad and its access to markets in Winchester, Fairfax County, and Alexandria counties. In 1852, FallsChurch became an incorporated municipality with a population of 491 residents. By 1860, FallsChurch had reached 1,000 residents and by 1870 it had grown to 2,500 residents within a radius of 10 miles of the city center. In 1876, while still an incorporated municipality, FallsChurch became one of six school districts in Fairfax County (the others being Centreville (1866), Crystal City (1877), Manassas Junction (1879), Potomac Hills (1881), and Springdale (1902)). In 1886-87 when Fairfax County acquired land east of Fallsmile Road for what would become Arlington National Cemetery or adjacent Arlington Heights neighborhood—a development that has been variously called "The Birthplace of Washington" or "The New Town"—FallsChurch lost much but regained much from its days as an incorporationslip community including several blocks northward along Fallsmile Road between 2nd Street and Main Street which are now home to numerous apartments buildings known collectively as The Old Town Area; two blocks westward along 3rd Street between Broadway Avenue and Main Streets were also once home to many businesses before they were annexed into Arlington Heights; northwest corner from 4th Streetsouthwest corner from 5th Street now lies Charter Oak Park neighborhoods; while southeast corner from 6th Street now Lies Deep Creek neighborhood In 1956–57 when Fairfax County adopted new zoning regulations which limited growth potential within certain areas such as those within boundaries defined by previous zoning regulations—such growth becoming known as The Greenbelt Movement—FallsChurch experienced rapid growth due largely to increased immigration from Mexico who were then Living slideshowd among other things in single family homes built specifically for their presence; developers soon responded with subdivisions which again followed traditional patterns including streets named after Mexican immigrants such as Alvarado/Alvarado Boulevard/Alvarado Way; Manuel Noriega Drive/Manuel Noriega Way; Diego Rivera Drive/Diego Rivera Way etc.; all these developments remain extant today despite occasional objections from preservationists who maintain that these names are inappropriate because they name streets after people or geographical features rather than historical figures It should be noted that even though most subdivisions continue down traditional patterns like these there have been some recent examples where developers have undertaken projects characterized by more modern architecture such as Joshua Tree Village located in northwestern Fairfax County outside the city limits just outside of Dulles airport

Falls Church is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia. It was established in 1753 as a small Anglican community on the Potomac River. The population of Falls Church was 8,000 at its peak in 1820. The town and county were merged into Fairfax County in 1871. The first settler in what would become Falls Church was John Barrett who arrived from England in 1753 with his family. He founded the village of Manassas on the Rappahannock River which he named after his patron saint, Mary. In December 1755, a group of men led by Colonel George Washington arrived at Manassas and began to build houses there. By May 1756, all of the settlers had moved to Fallsmere where they built two small churches: St Michael's Episcopal (founded 1757) and Christ's Parish (founded April 14th, 1758). Reverend Nicholas Bourke served as the first rector of Christ's Parish until October 1st,1761 when he resigned to marry Mrs Jane Carye Custis daughter of General Henry Carye. Mr Bourke then served as Rector for six years until he retired July 10th,1775 effective date because Captain John Smith became Pastor August 15th following Rev Bourke's death It is said that Captain John Smith requested that Falls Church be renamed "New Town" due to its growth since his time serving as pastor there but this request was not granted Captain John Smith also helped found Alexandria ( now Arlington ) in September 1699 while stationed at Portsmouth Naval Base during the American Revolution . Alexandria soon grew into one of the most important cities during this time period with over 100 buildings being erected including several churches and schools
