The Culpeper, Virginia Army National Guard’s history dates back to 1781. At that time, the Sons of Liberty were active in the area and organized a militia to protect the colonists. The militia was disbanded after a few months, but two members, John Brown and James Fenton, decided to keep it alive by forming an army and arming themselves. In 1812, Captain Samuel Chase organized a company of men from Culpeper County in order to help stop Tecumseh’s Indian uprising. In 1814-1815, the company fought at Monacacy Battle; however, they lost all their equipment and were forced to disband. However, in 1816-1817 they participated in the Battle of Alexandria where they managed to repulse an attack by 3 companies of Indians led by Tecumseh. In 1819-1820 Captain George Armstrong formed a battalion of men from Culpeper County in order to fight against General Andrew Jackson’s Creek Campaign during the War for Northern Independence. They lost many soldiers during this campaign but still managed to participate in some major engagements such as Battles of New Orleans and Horseshoe Bend. In 1830-1831 Captain John A Gilliamorganized a battalion of men from Culpeper County in order to fight against Judge Henderson’s Creek Campaign while he was also general commanding West Virginia Militia forces trying unsuccessfully periodical raids into Kentucky and Tennessee (Operation Overland). After participating successfully in several battles including Vicksburg (Mississippi) he was brevetted brigadier general on 10/5/1830 and commandant at Huntington Barracks until his death on 12/2/1832; however his battalion never joined any other regiment or unit due to lack of volunteers or financial resources which doomed them when compared with other military units within the United StatesArmy at that time

Culpeper is a town in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. The population was 11,978 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Prince William County and home to Culpeper High School and the Culpeper Marine Museum. The town was first settled in 1734 by Nicholas Culpeper and his family. He began an agriculturally based economy that relied on slave labor for subsistence. By 1800, however, the cotton industry had replaced agriculture as the town's mainstay. In 1871, Culpeper became part of Washington Territory when Virginia was divided into two U.S. states. In 1902, it incorporated as a township under the name of "Culpepper". The name was changed to "Culpeper" in 1907 when it became apparent that another community called Chapmanville would be renamed after President James Buchanan's son-in-law Samuel Chapman (1806–1892). However, this change did not take effect until 1914 because both towns were included within then-Prince Edward County which was separate from Virginia at that time. In 1940, during World War II, Culpeper served as headquarters for First Naval District Headquarters Southern New England Command (10th Naval District) which controlled all Allied forces in Hampton Roads area including Newport News Shipbuilding Corporation yards where American submarines were built before being deployed against Japan through Task Force 58 (1939–1945). After hostilities ended in 1945 and America gained its independence from Great Britain, CulpePER reverted back to its original name - "Culpepper". The Marine Museum opened in 1951 with donated funds from local entrepreneur Harry Fenton Welch III who also founded Charlottesville's Fenton Welch Chevrolet dealership chain and other businesses around Charlottesville/Lynchburg area before he died in 2006 at age 96%. As one of only a few municipalities statewide with its own small museum affiliated with a college or university located therein (Fenton WelchCollege), culPEPER has long been an important tourist destination for residents and visitors alike - most notably during events such as Armed Forces Day memorial services held at WRVA studios each year since 1987; Christmas tree lighting on Main Street; Fourth of July fireworks displays over White Sands Missile Range; tractor drives down Main Street promoting agricultural exhibits at various farmers' markets throughout summer months...culPEPER offers many attractions unique to this small town apart from its historical setting: culPEVER offers Quinnipiac University students living on campus access to free admission onto courthouse property for tours every morning between 8am – 10am during school hours; along US 221 Business Loop Drive corridor near historic downtown are several restaurants open late nightly providing evening entertainment including live music daily except Mondays thru Fridays when performances are limited to 7pm; available weekdays during school lunch hours are several convenience stores connected by expressways serving culPEVER - locally made breads & pastas available inside most convenience stores across the tri-state area; independent movie theaters dotting rural areas throughout central VA offer programming specific to their communities adjacent thereto - typically art films screened outdoors or occasionally feature large scale musical events indoors while larger venues show popular Broadway & ballet productions....

Culpeper, Virginia is a small town located in Prince George's County, Virginia. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Culpeper is an agricultural community that became known for its tobacco production. The first white settlers were attracted to the area by the abundance of timber and its other natural resources. Taylor & Company built a plantation on present-day Upperville Street in 1792. By 1800, there were 12 plantations in the area and more than 1,000 slaves working on them. In 1802, when Francis Scott Key was born in nearby Upper Gwynedd Township, he likely visited Culpeper often because it was one of the few places in Virginia where he could buy tobacco products without arousing suspicion from his family or neighbors. After serving as a midshipman in the USS Constitution during the American Revolution (1775-1783), Key moved to Culpeper and began writing songs about local life and people he knew while living there. One such song,, was published posthumously in 1834 and remains popular today.
Culpeper was founded in 1701 by Captain John Culpeper and his wife Pocahontas. The first permanent English settlement in Virginia was at Jamestown, which was founded by the British in 1607. The town of Culpeper grew up around the trading post on the Rappahannock River. In 1802, General James Wilkinson decided to move the capital of Virginia from Richmond to Washington City. As a result, Culpeper became the new capital of Virginia.
