The history of marine gift giving in Blacksburg, Virginia began with the founding of the town in 1799. At that time, Blacksburg was a small village located on the Potomac River, about two miles downstream from modern-day Blackburg. The founders of Blacksburg were planning to build a new town on land they had purchased from the Henshaw family. The first store in Blacksburg opened its doors in 1803 and sold goods such as bread, flour, butter and cheese. In 1813, John Randolph founded Randolph's Paper Company and started printing papers for local businesses. He also became one of the first men to own a farm in Blacksburg. In 1824, Dr. James Goode built Goode's General Store which was one of the earliest grocery stores in Blacksburg. Goode also served as Mayor of Blacksburg from 1827 to 1830 and again from 1834 to 1840. In 1846, Blacksmiths shop opened at Seventh Street and Broadway which soon became known as "the most important blacksmithshop in America." It was here that blacksmiths created all sorts of items necessary for daily life such as pistols (for militia duty), rifles (for hunting), agricultural tools (such as hoes and sickles) and cannons (used by Marines during World War II). From its inception until 1964, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune served as the official center for marine gift Giving operations within Hampton Roads region. During this time period there were numerous conventions/festivals hosted at Marine Corps Base Camp LeJeune by various organizations including The Naval Aviation Museum & Archives; USS Constitution Museum; Army Ordnance Museum; United States Marines Academy; American Legion Post #992; Red Cross Post #973 & #975 & Post 979 throughout Portsmouth County excluding Lynchburg County where it was housed at Southern National Bank Building until moved toCamp LeJeune on 1 October 1984

Blacksburg is a town in Virginia, United States. The population was 23,846 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fairfax County. Blackburg has been the home of many military and government institutions such as Blandford University and West Point Military Academy, both of which are located in nearby Arlington County. The town was founded by the British in 1758 as a small station on the route from Norfolk to Williamsburg. By 1800, Blacksburg had become one of the most important settlements in what would come to be known as Virginia. In 1821, it became part of Fredericktown Township under Federal rule following the American Revolution. However, because Blacksburg lacked any source of water or power, its residents were forced to sell their land and leave for fear that they would be taken away by Congress if they kept their independence. In 1832, Blacksburg was incorporated as a town under state law; it remained an unincorporated community until 1959 when it was made part of Fairfax County along with other municipalities within Fairfax County. In 1967, when Fairfax County merged with neighboringungrouping jurisdictions called Northern Virginia to form George Washington National Park (GWNP), Blacksburg became one of its first park units along with Reston and Sterling Heights. GWNP continues to operate today as part of the National Park Service system within America's largest national park - providing resources for visitors living near GWNP sites across Northern Virginia and beyond. Today's Blacksburg is home to many businesses including restaurants and stores; blacksmiths; a large software company; two hospitals: King George Medical Center and Prince William Hospital; three universities: Blandford University (a post-secondary school), West Point Military Academy (a military academy), and Arlington Community College (an educational institution). Blacksburg is a town in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population was 21,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reston–Monroe Metropolitan Statistical Area. Blacksburg is located on the Potomac River and is adjacent to Manassas National Battlefield Park. Blackburg was founded in 1775 as a landing for African Americans who were transported downriver from North Carolina to work in local agricultural plantations. The first slave trade occurred here in 1785. In 1802, General Thomas Jarratt's army skirmished with Native American Chief Powhatan near Blacksburg; this led to the Indian War and increased demand for slaves in the area. The first white resident of Blacksburg was James McMahan, who arrived in 1787 from Ireland with his family. He built a house on what is now Market Street and became one of the early settlers hereabouts. He was followed by John Fenton and other families about 1800-1810. A large plantation complex called "Moses" was acquired by Elijah Hicks in 1814; it comprised more than 100 acres (40 hectares) of land along creekside routes running southward from Fredericktown through downtown Blacksburg to English Creek and then eastward to an outlet on Third Creek near present-day University Drive). At its peak production level, Moses had 200 slaves working on its 400 acres (16 hectares) of land; but by 1840 it had all been sold off or dismantled following Hicks's death." In 1861, after Confederate forces surrendered at Appomattox Court House, many black men were marched into town through Fairfax County until they reached Civil War camps around ConfederateHQ at White Oak Road outside town limits where they were kept under guard until May 1865 when most were Freedmen brought back home via Union Armies
