When the Utah Air National Guard's 172d Fighter Wing was activated in 1947, it was the first time that an air force had been stationed in the state. The wing was soon renamed the 176th Fighter Wing and deployed to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio for training. In 1951, the wing moved to RAF Fairford, England for operational flying training before returning home in 1955. The wing then relocated back to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio and served as a component of Tactical Air Command until it was discontinued in 1991. In 1990, when the United States exited World War II and began its own conflict with Yugoslavia, West Jordan became part of Operation Uttomorrow andactivated the 184th Airlift Wing which would fly personnel and materiel over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The wings operations continued until 1996 when they were eliminated altogether when all military units were disbanded following Operation Allied Force. Today there is no active USAF presence in West Jordan but there are numerous civilian organizations who rely on airlift services from Wright-Patterson AFB including: University of Utah athletics department; LDS Church's Provo Regional Office; Uinta County government; Salt Lake City Electric Light District; Weber County government; Millcreek Paper Company; American Economic Association; Alpine Ski Area Finally there is also a small army detachment deployments every year during winter Olympics IFRA Exempted Events Program

On Dec. 2, 1941, the United States Air Force activated at Lehi, Utah. The first squadron was equipped with P-38 Lightning fighters and was called the 1st Fighter Squadron (1FS). On Aug. 15, 1942, the 1FS became the 10th Fighter Squadron (10FS), and on Jan. 17, 1943, it changed its name to the 8th Fighter Squadron (8FS). The 8 FS flew Lockheed P-38s from RAF Lakenheath in England during World War II.Following the war ended on September 2nd 1945 these aircraft were sold to Mexico who used them as Buick Skylarks for a time before selling them back to USA in 1951
West Jordan, Utah is a town in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. The name "West Jordan" comes from the fact that it is east of Cedar City and north of Ogden. The first settlers in what would become West Jordan were farmers who arrived around 1847. In 1850 they built the first school and in 1857 started trading with Cedar City and other towns to get goods they needed for their farmsteads. In 1870 the railway came through and soon people from all over were moving into West Jordan because of its location on the railroad line. In 1902 the town became a city when it annexed Cedar City to add growth to its population. Today West Jordan offers a variety of services such as recreation, education, healthcare, economic development and more!

West Jordan, Utah is a city in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 12,640 at the 2000 census. The name of the town was chosen in 1847 by Colonel George A. Smith and named for West Jordan Creek which lay between his farmstead and that of Brigham Young's father-in-law. The first post office in West Jordan opened on July 14, 1847. It closed on December 30, 1948 due to the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which forced all Native Americans in the area to leave their homes. There are several reasons why West Jordan became an important center during the late 1800s and early 1900s. One reason is because it had an agricultural economy that supported both local farmers and settlers living nearby; additionally, it served as a transportation hubImportant minerals were located here including coal and silver; finally, Mormon missionaries who traveled throughout southwesternUtah proselytized during this time also made stops at this small town
West Jordan was first settled by Mormons in 1847. The town was named for the West Branch of the Ogallala River, which flows through Utah. In 1861, the West Jordan Post Office was founded and continued to be in operation until 1912.
