Washington, Utah is a great place to live and work because of the coffee scene. The city has been known for its coffee since the 1800s. In 1892, Hyrum C. Smith founded the Zion Coffee Company in what is now called Union Station in Washington, D.C. The company started out selling beans from his house on K Street NW. In 1954, John Deere established a cooperative grocery store in Utah that became one of the largest such stores in the country. The store's flagship roast was made from beans roasted by Artisan Coffee Co-op employees at their cooperative roastery on 8 Mile Creek Road near Logan Airport in Provo, UT. The store closed in 1984 but its roast continues to be sold at other Deere locations across North America today as part of their "One Giant Bean" line which consists of over 100 different flavors of coffee including Breakfast Blend, French Press, Columbian Robusta and Joe's Place Organic Roasts.) The first coffee bean was roasted in Sumatra in the 6th century. The Dutch started roasting coffee beans in Java in 1624. The French began to roast coffee beans in Roquefort, France, around 1795. Arabica beans were developed by Ethiopian slaves and grown near the African coast.
Washington, Utah is a small town in the Wasatch Front region of northern Utah. The population was 1,814 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. Washington first came into being in 1847 when George A. Smith founded a post office at what is now called Wilsonville in Summit County. He named it for George Washington, who had been president at the time. By 1860, there were three posts—George A., Brigham Young and John Dickson—but by 1870 only George A.'s remained operational; Brigham Young's had been discontinued because he no longer lived in Utah (he moved to Nevada). The remaining two posts were combined under one name, Brigham Young Academy (later Brigham Young University)—a move that was opposed by some residents but supported by others because it increased business opportunities for the town. In 1875, when Congress passed an act establishing Provo as a city, Provo took full advantage of this new opportunity and renamed itself Washington on December 12th following incorporation proceedings held on January 3rd that year. In 1907 President Theodore Roosevelt designated Washington as the capital of Utah and on November 14th General Electric donated land to form downtown electric light district which served as the nucleus for what would become today's Capitol Hill neighborhood withinUSEU campus boundaries; residential development began immediately east of Center Street near Temple Square with high-rise apartment buildings completed between 1927 and 1931 (the first LDS temple built outside of Nauvoo) Today much older warehouses along Center Street are still used to store produce from farmers' fields or meat from slaughterhouses during winter months or during World War II when military supplies such as planes and tanks were transferred from Ogden to nearby Davis-Monthan Air Force Base The population peaked at 2,245 in 1930 before slowly declining over ensuing decades due largely to commuting costs associated with larger cities such as Salt Lake City or Denver . After falling below 1,000 again between 1990 and 2000 , however ,[5] its population has slowly rebounded over recent years reaching 1,814 according to the 2010 census
In 1847, Brigham Young led a group of Mormons from Utah to Salt Lake City in what is now the state of Utah. The Mormons created a new nation within the United States and named it Deseret after the biblical figure Mormon (Laman and Lemuel). They began their own government, which lasted until 1906 when they were forced out by federal forces.
