Tooele, Utah is a city in Ogden County, Utah, United States. The population was 30,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Ogden County. Tooele is located on the Wasatch Front and bordered by Weber County to the north and south. The first permanent settler in present-day Tooele was Lorenzo Snow on November 8, 1847. He named his land "Snow's Vale" after himself and his father-in-law, David Wearing. In 1848 Mormon pioneers John Capps and George Hill built a cabin here while they were surveyors for Brigham Young. On February 26 of that year Mormon pioneer Orson Pratt came into town from Cedar City with news of an early settlement near convergence of Clear Creek and Cottonwood Rivers in Bears Ears National Monument northwest of Salt Lake City known as Provo River Valley or Jordan Valley because Joseph Smith had also visited this area there several years earlier (see Mormon Trail). In 1850 William Jenson organized what became known as Pioneer Land Company to purchase township 16 South in Tooele Township from Nathan Davis for $5 per acre lot.
