The history of the Tooele Army detachment is long and varied. The detachment was organized on October 1, 1898 in response to a call for military service by the Mayor of Tooele. The detachment was composed of 10 men and their families. They were first stationed at Fort Douglas until 1899 when they moved to Fort Kearney. In 1903, the detachment was redesignated as the "Tooele Army." On November 5, 1907, the detachments were again redesignated as "Army" detachments when they became part of the 8th Infantry Division under command of General George S. Patton. On February 15, 1945, all army detachments were disbanded after World War II ended and their weapons were turned over to local police forces in Utah.

Tooele, Utah is a town in the U.S. state of UT, located on the Wasatch Front National Forest. The population was 5,956 at the 2010 census. The town was incorporated in 1883 and has grown rapidly since then, with annexations from Ogden to Layton and now to Provo as well. The first permanent settlers arrived in what is now Tooele in 1847 after traveling overland from St George, Utah Territory. John Coyle established the first store there in 1850. In 1863, Brigham Young organized a Latter Day Saint colony called Nauvoo east of Salt Lake City on the Jordan River; Tooele became part of that colony until it was raided by LDS forces in 1865 and destroyed. In 1881 Tooele voters approved incorporation as a city; however, this measure failed to gain passage through the Utah legislature because it conflicted with efforts by Provo Mayor Lorenzo Snow to annex Tooele into his city limits. On February 15th 1889 Mayor Snow submitted an ordinance for adoption which proposed annexing all of present-day Provo County (excluding Tooele) into the new city; but this ordinance also failed to gain passage due to strong opposition from within its own community. The growth of downtown Tooele during this time can be seen in several photos taken during that period: one shows citizens gathered around the municipal building while workers build a new library addition; another shows people playing ball outside of City Hall; and still another shows people shopping at local businesses before lunchtime – all evidence of how quicklyTooele had become a major center for commerce and industry within its borders. On November 1st 1928, nearly eighty years after incorporation as acity, Tooele achieved full city status when it ratified an act passed by its own councilmember Keith Sperry making it one of only two cities (the other being Draper) nationwide designated as such by that body pursuant to Section 8(a) of Wyoming Municipal Code No 1029A (1928). This designation represented an important milestone for both cities because it demonstrated that their residents were fully supportive of each other’s existence and wanted nothing more than cooperative partnership with future growth potential within each respective community…Today’s mayors have worked hard over many years ensuring continued cooperation between our two communities as we continue our journey towards becoming one united community!

Tooele, Utah is a town in the Tooele County, Utah, United States. The population was 5,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Provo–Orem metropolitan area. The name "Tooele" comes from the Paiute term "tomahawk." The first permanent settler in what is now Tooele County was James Fenton who arrived there on November 30, 1822. He and his bride were among about sixty pioneers who left Independence Rock for what would become Tooele County. They founded a log cabin on the south side of North Fork of the Sevier River. On July 14, 1825 James Fenton's wife lost her life when their wagon got stuck in soft snow near present-day Payson while they were traveling to market. Fenton's son-in-law John Cockrell started trading with Native Americans here and soon began developing irrigation systems that allowed farming along both banks of the Sevier River and led to increased trade with other parts of Utah and beyond. In 1849 Brigham Young appointed Cockrell as one of his counselors to help lead LDS settlement in this new territory adjoining Salt Lake Valley—the so-called Great Basin region which included much of eastern Washington Territory (now Idaho). In 1860 construction began on WHAT became known as Territorial Capitol building in downtown Tooele after territorial legislators met there during a special session convened by President Abraham Lincoln to consider how to improve governance within newly acquired Utah Territory following its purchase from Mexico in February 1, 1861. Tooele was founded as a Mormon settlement in 1847. The town grew rapidly after the railroad was built through the area and became an important commercial center. The population peaked in the early 1960s, but has declined since then. Today, Tooele is a small town with a limited amount of cultural significance.
