There is a long and varied coffee history that can be traced back to the early days of coffee production. In fact, coffee was first grown and brewed in Africa by the ancient Egyptians. Coffee was then brought to Europe by Columbus in 1492 and became part of Spanish culture. The Portuguese founded their own coffee industry in Brazil in 16th century. Dutch traders also began trading with India and started cultivating coffee beans there. In 17th century, French traders began importing coffee from Indonesia which led to creation of Java Coffee Company. By 18th century, Dutch influence had diminished and Brazil became a republic while Europe remained under Spanish control. Worldwide trade shifted from spices to tea as transportation improved. At this time, many African slaves were exported for work in European countries including Indonesia where they were used as laborers on plantations (Kirchhoff). The Europeans discovered new worlds with rich resources such as timber, minerals, seaweed, etc., which led to increased demand for foodstuffs such as sugar cane and beans (Fernandez-Armesto). However, the introduction of new technologies like steamboats made it possible for ships to travel faster across oceanic distances which led to increased shipping traffic along coastlines (Cameron). This also permitted Europeans to encounter new cultures with their newly developed technology which influences how these cultures perceived coffee (Bezos). Additionally, advances in transportation allowed people living near large towns or cities access to high quality espresso drinks without having Toorakaya farmer deliver them directly (Liang). As more people moved into industrialized societies during the 19th century there was an increase in café culture throughout North America (Barton), continental Europe (Weinberger), Australia/New Zealand (Pombo), South Asia (Tandon), Southeast Asia (Siewert), Japan (Irie) and East Asia (-Wangchuk et al.). This period saw an increasing trend towards fine-grained cuproasting techniques that yielded more intense flavors than earlier methods like boiling water or pressing powder through filters. Furthermore, technological advances allowed cafes and restaurantsto serve fresh beverages all day long instead of just morning or afternoon tea - providing customers with multiple options throughout the day
The first coffee was roasted in Sumatra in the 6th century. The first espresso machine was invented in 1795 by Angelo Rossi. Coffee beans were grown wild and hand-picked, and then dried for centuries before being processed into coffee.
