Springville is a small town in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,582 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Provo–Orem metropolitan area. Springville was founded in 1859 by Danish immigrants and has been a Mormon community for over sixty years. The first settlers arrived in what is now Springville in 1859 on the Mountain Meadows Trail from Independence, Missouri. They were led by Captain James Hales who had come from Maine to help build the wagon road from Cedar City to Ogden. He named his new settlement after his friend and mentor Brigham Young. The early pioneers builtLog Cabin Houses which still stand today on Main Street near the Springville Cemetery. In 1862, LDS apostle Lorenzo Snow traveled through Weber County and stopped at Big Cottonwood River where he sketched out plans for an LDS Tabernacle (later called Nauvoo Temple). This event marked the start of Salt Lake Valley's growth as an apostolic center for Mormons around the world. In 1865, Brigham Young appointed Orson Hyde as leader of a group of Latter-day Saints traveling through Weber County on their way to preach missions throughout North America. On their return trip, they stayed at Log Cabin House which later became known as Hyde Park Hotel . After spending three days there discussing religious beliefs with local farmers and stockmen, they set off for Council Bluffs, Iowa with some 3000 converts rather than continuing southward into Illinois Territory as planned. 2 miles north of present day Springville stands ruins of what may have been one or more early LDS temples – it is currently unknown if this structure ever functioned as a temple or not
