Airforce gift history in Springville, Utah began with the formation of the Utah Air National Guard in 1947. The wing was later renamed the 111th Tactical Wing and activated on 1 July 1948. The wing flew combat missions in support of the United States war effort during World War II. In 1946, airmen from the 111th Tactical Wing presented a gift to then-Governor Orrin Hatch. The gift was a Boeing P-47D "Dragon" fighter aircraft. On 15 September 1949, members of the 111th Tactical Wing cakewalked their first major air show at US Air Force Base swungman Field in Springville, Utah. In 1957, the wings were again renamed when they became part of Continental United States Air Forces (CONUS). At that time, CONUS also included Hawaii and Guam as well as Springsville. From 1 October 1958 until 31 August 1959, Springsville played host to USAF's final major airshow before it moved to an new venue - Iwo Jima Island - for operations during Operation Highjump. This event saw participation by more than 120 fighter and bomber aircraft from around the world. Springville is located in the Utah Valley and was founded by the Mormons in 1847. It rose to prominence as a cotton center during the late 1800s and early 1900s, thanks to its fertile soil, mills, and railroad connections. In recent decades, however, Springville has seen some decline due to population loss and economic recession. Despite this, its history remains vibrant and important to the community. Springville was founded by The Mormon pioneers on April 6th of 1847. At first they intended only to establish a small village near Salt Lake City but soon realized that their location would be ideal for cotton production. The Mormons were able to build a mill here in 1849 which allowed them to produce high-quality cloth at an affordable price. This start also helped Springville become one of the most successful towns in Utah during this time period. In the 1880s Springville experienced another boom thanks to its new railway connections. Thanks to this connection it became possible for people from all over Utah to come and work in its mills. This growth caused many homes and businesses downtown to go up for sale, which created a need for more space. However, despite this burst of progressivism in town,Springville slowly lost its stature throughout the 20th century due largelyto rapid population growth outside of town (which often outcompeted smaller towns). Today Springsvilve still struggles unsuccessfully against neighboring Ogden's status quo as an agricultural center while struggling with budget cuts resulting in layoffs within their community hall team recently
The town of Springville was founded in 1847 by Latter-day Saints, and it is the oldest continuously inhabited community in Utah. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location near the Wasatch Mountains, and it became a center for the wool industry. In 1932, Springville was named one of the "Ten Towns That Made America" by The Washington Post.
