Small batch coffee history can be traced back to the early 1800s in South Salt Lake, Utah. The first small batch coffee house was opened in 1868 by George French and his brother-in-law, John Doane. The business grew quickly and soon had a dozen employees. By 1897, the French family had sold their business to J. H. McNaught and his son, James McNaught. One of the first things that James McNaught did was open a large store on First Avenue in South Salt Lake City which became known as “The Big Store” because it housed the largest variety of small batch coffee products in the area. This store also served as a meeting place for local brewers and buyers of beans. In 1898, Jens Jensen opened a small restaurant called The Cafe which quickly became well-known for its excellent quality Small Batch Coffee products. From 1908 until 1951, Mr. Jensen operated this restaurant under three different names including The Oasis Café, The Nugget Cafe, and finally The Big Apple Café before closing it down permanently in 1951 due to changing tastes in town (see below). During World War II, many local residents bought into the wartime production of smallbatch coffee products because they were needed for soldiers on military duty or for those who needed caffeine during peacetime time (see below). After the war ended there were Decreasing demand for smallbatch coffee so many businesses closed that by 1971 there were only five remaining establishments servingsmallbatch coffee in South Salt Lake City (see below). However, since then several new businesses have opened up throughout town offeringqualitysmallbatch coffees at reasonable prices making it one of Utah’s most popular tourist destinations for cupcakes and pastries! Today there are over seventy-fivesmall batch coffee shops operating throughoutSouthSaltLakeCity providing unique experiences each time you walk into one of these places! Tomahawk produced over 1 million cups of full-bodied beans per year and distributed them throughout Utah and Colorado. This high level of production allowed for a greater variety of flavors and quality control than was available at smaller shops or restaurants. Since the 1990s, South Salt Lake's community has become increasingly interested in artisanal coffee products. In 2002, the city passed an ordinance that allows for the cultivation and sale of specialty coffees within its boundaries. This growth led to the opening of several new small batch coffee businesses throughout South Salt Lake over the next few years. These businesses have helped create a more diverse range of flavors and stylesavailable from local producers than ever before.

The community was first settled by Mormon pioneers in 1847 and named Provo. It was renamed South Salt Lake City on July 15, 1948 following the creation of Davis County. The original Provo post office closed on December 12, 1957. South Salt Lake City has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen "Cfa"), abbreviated "Csb". According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, South Salt Lake City has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate (Csa).

South Salt Lake was a small town in Cache County, Utah, until the late 1800s. The community was named for South Salt Lake in far northern Utah, which would have been less than 10 miles from its original site. The first settlers to live in South Salt Lake were farmers and their families who came overland from Oregon during the gold rush of 1848. By 1850, the population had increased to about 25 people and five stores. In 1852, a post office was established at South Salt Lake with Wm. H. Flanders as postmaster. Theodore Whitney donated land to establish a school district in 1861 and it became part of Cache Valley School District #1 on January 1, 1870. In 1902, the community changed its name to SouthSaltLake because of an agreement between the Mormon Church and agent J[ohn] A[nderson]. The name change made it easier for residents to identify themselves since most residents still spoke English at that time. In 1916, World War I interrupted businesses throughout Cache Valley so much that only two businesses continued operating: the grocery store and Zion’s Watch Company (later Deseret Industries). That year also saw the first electric lights being put into use in SouthSaltLake when they were installed by George Sarton at Zion’s Watch Company; this event is documented on local historical maps from that era. A new school was built adjacent to Zion’s Watch Company in 1922 using funds provided by Daughters ofthe American Revolution (DAR) member Lillie Payson Reid for educational purposes withinCacheValleySchoolDistrict #2; this building is still standing today and serves as both our current schoolhouse and storage facility for public schools in our area today! In 1933-1934 there was significant development taking place within what is now known as Park City because then-Mayor John H.[ Patterson] decided to move all city services out ofCache Valley so that they could be centralized closer to downtown Park City through several agencies including Water Supply Department, Streets Department etc.. This move allowed him considerable resources which he used later on when he formed his own government what would become called Park City Mayoralty! From 1933-1934 until his death in 1949 many important decisions were made regarding parkcity government without having any input from Cache Valley citizens!!! This example shows how powerful those close to politicians can be! After Mayor Patterson's death some changes took place such as splitting off Park City Development Agency into their own entity under Mayor Harry [H.] McKay but overall things remained somewhat similar until becoming annexed by Park City proper circa 1951 after Mayor Richard B.] Seaman demolished much ofcache valley Business District!!!!!

In 1861, Brigham Young ordered the construction of a Union Pacific Railroad line through South Salt Lake.
