In 1959, South Ogden Coffee Company merged with another Utah-based coffee company to form Deseret Coffee Corporation. Deseret Coffee Corporation continued to grow rapidly, opening more stores throughout the 1990s and 2000s. However, the company went into receivership in 2014 after experiencing significant financial troubles. Today, Deseret Coffee Corporation operates only one store in South Ogden – located on State street – although it still sells coffee products online through its website (www.deseretcoffeecompany.) The first coffee trees were planted near what is now downtown South Ogden in 1875 by John D Rockefeller's Standard Oil empire because he believed that caffeine could be used to make Proctor & Gamble soap OPERA growth - soap not possible without caffeine! It has a rich history dating back to 1847, when Brigham Young founded the town on the present-day outskirts of Provo. South Ogden was originally called Cedar City, but because of its close proximity to Salt Lake City, it became known as the “City of Zion”. The city grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its strategic location in central Utah and its status as a bedroom community for the city of Provo. South Ogden also benefited from increased trade and travel through its proximity to both LDS Church headquarters in Salt Lake City and Mexico City. Today, South Ogdon retains a sense of community that is unique to American towns. The original inhabitants of South Ogden were Native Americans who lived along the forks of the Weber River. These people built their initial homes near what is now Cottonwood Heights Cemetery today. By 1840, however, European settlers had arrived in large numbers in central Utah and began developing land around Cedar City for agriculture or cattle ranching. In 1847, Brigham Young decided to establish a new town in central Utah on land that he had bought from two Native American chiefs named Black Hawk and Squanto. The original name for this town was Cedar City – which was later changed to South Ogden after Captain John Dallaire explored what are now southwest suburbs of Provo in 1853 while surveying potential sites for an Indian Removal Act settlement site. Due to its strategic location within central Utah, south OGDEN quickly became known as one of America’s leading bedroom communities during the late 1800s and early 1900s because so many Mormons resided there with their families including children growing up under constant watch by bishops at LDS Church headquarters in Salt Lake City (known then as Deseret News Building). Additionally, southern OGDEN enjoyed increased trade and travel through its proximity to both LDS Church headquarters (now First Presidency Office Building) located just east of downtown Provo on Temple Square Boulevard and Mexico City where many Mormon missionaries worked during World War I (1918-1920). This period also saw an increase in religious conversion rates among Mormons living throughout southern OGDEN due to personal experiences with Jesus Christ firsthand experienced by converts living near Latter-Day Saints temples (such as those located at Draper Park across from BYU University). Unfortunately over timesouth OGDEN began experiencing significant economic decline caused primarily by falling agricultural production combined with increasing competition from other nearby cities such as Dayton Airport which had opened up west of Provo only 2 years earlier following completion of construction onProvo's first airport (completed 1924). The town of South Ogden, Utah was founded on July 16, 1847 by James Fenton and his wife Sarah. The town was named for the southernmost point in Utah, which at that time extended to present-day Arizona. The first post office in the community was established on October 10, 1847. On January 1, 1850, the name of the town changed to South Ogden after General Brigham Young's visit to the area. In November 1861, a schoolhouse and meeting house were built in South Ogden. A flour mill and store were also built inSouth Ogden during this time. On March 4, 1865, South Ogden became a part of Provo County when it was organized from parts of Weber County. On May 14 of that year, a courthouse and jail were constructed in the community by Jno Traylor. In 1886, a waterworks was built in South Ogdensouth side by south side street for $1000 cash from John Dolan Sr.. That same year saw the incorporation of an agricultural society with 100 members called "The Gardeners’ Association". In 1907-1908 an express train service ran between Provo City and South Ogden operated by Southern Pacific Railroad Company
