This rifle was used by Captain Fremont during the Mexican-American War. After the war, Captain Fremont gave this rifle to Major James H. Keeler of the 1st Infantry Regiment, Utah Volunteers. In 1882, Major Keeler donated a cannon to the town of South Jordan for use in training militia men and women for participation in the American Civil War. In 1949,South Jordan unveiled an American Flagpole at Fourth Avenue and State Street which served as a permanent reminder of its military connection to America’s conflict with Japan during World War II. Between 1948 and 1952, South Jordan hosted two United States Military Academy midshipmen summer encampments; these encampments were part of U SMA’s efforts to provide cadets with firsthand experience in drill and warfare while also providing them with opportunities for socialization and education outside of classroom instruction. The town saw its first combat actually take place on November 17th, 1954 when members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) participated in a peaceful march from their home on Glen Canyon Boulevard northward through downtown South Jordan towards LDS Temple Square where they planned to stage a protest against proposed changes within the church leadership regarding doctrine and practice regarding contraception which had been met with resistance by some members within the community since prior to that date

The first residents of what is now South Jordan were three Paiute Indians who had been living near the site since before 1849. In 1854 they moved to what is now Kane County after being driven out of their previous territory by Mormons under Governor George A. Smith. The original town was located on the east side of present-day South Jordan Boulevard just south of Interstate 15; it was called Cedar City because Cedar Creek flowed through it. By 1860 the town had grown so large that it became an independent county, but remained subordinate to Kane County until 1907 when it merged with Kane to form this current city. During World War I there were many gas stations and other stores in South Jordan catering to soldiers stationed in nearby Camp Wasatch; these businesses closed during the war because wartime production limitations made them unprofitable as compared to other towns in southern Utah which were housing more people and generating more revenue from sales taxes and property taxes. One such store reopened after the war but soon went out of business due to competition from newer stores opening up throughout southern Utah during that time period as well as from automobiles which began becoming popular among soldiers stationed in centralUtah beginning in 1918. In 1921 construction began on Brigham Young University's first engineering building on campus now known as Old Main; this building still stands today and houses various university departments including architecture, engineering, journalism, marketing, social work/human resources management etc.; additionally Old Main houses classrooms used by BYU students both undergraduate ( albeit sometimes informally) and graduate level (MBA & MS degrees). During that same year also saw construction begin on another engineering building which would become infamous as Highland Park: this building housed BYU's football stadium (now called Rice Stadium) along with various administrative offices such as student services, finance etc.; Highland Park also served as home ground for men’s basketball (now known as US Airways Arena), volleyball (now known as Liberty Bowl arena), soccer (currently playing at Goodman Stadium) and softball (formerly played at Desert Hills park). Although not directly mentioned or built within Old Main or Highland Park respectively – these two buildings would go down in history together due to their significant role(s) in helping TOBYU achieve success both academically & athletically during those early years! Today much like then - South Jordan enjoys a diverse economy with a number of industries ranging from retail trade (& especially dining), professional sports teams including Brigham Young University’s Cougars & Utah State Aggies football programs (& even some college tennis matches taking place there!), healthcare services (&especially dental care!), tow truck driving/repairing services (!?), tourism (+ partly thanks to Mt Carmel ski resort!) etc... all while maintaining its vibrant community spirit!

South Jordan became a city in 1865 and was renamed for Brigham Young, the founder of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).
