South Jordan, Utah is a city in the Wasatch Front region of southeastern Utah. The population was 24,573 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ogden–Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area and is served by South Jordan School District. The first people to live in what is now South Jordan were the Fremont and Uintah people who had started arriving in their boats from western Canada about 1851. They built log huts on bluffs overlooking the river that flows through town. Over time, they lost interest in this location and woodland began to fill up around them, making it difficult to explore or farm there. In 1905, George Custer died near Spanish Fork while on his way south to fight with General Grant's army during the American Civil War; a popular legend has it that he was killed by Indians because he failed to surrender his horse after being told three times not to do so. In 1902 local rancher Hyrum Smith organized a group called "The Pioneers" for proposing an area for sale east of Spanish Fork where later called South Jordan would be established as a farming community with schools, churches and stores. On July 10th 1903 local farmers met at noon outside of South Jordan's Kelly Park (now known as Community Hall) and voted unanimously to form a township for themselves under leadership of Samuel Morse (1857-1927). A school board was also set up soon afterward which operated out of Sibley House until 1912 when a new building was erected on Main Street across from First United Methodist Church (later renamed Christ United Methodist Church). The first mayor was Wm. Burt Micklewright (1893-1976), followed by JF Woodrow Wilson (1920-2008). SouthJordan’s growth began slowly but steadily over time due largely to its location: right next door to Ogden which had been growing rapidly since 1872 when Brigham Young founded Intermountain Life Insurance Company there; easy access to I-15; ample water resources including three branches of the Murray River within minutes’ walk; hunting opportunities throughout much of central Utah; and good agricultural potential thanks to favorable zoning laws then in place that allowed small businesses such as fruit stands and grain elevators within limits set by developers allowing for more efficient use of land resources than if regulations were stricter

South Jordan, Utah is a town in Utah County, located in the eastern part of the state. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. South Jordan first became a town on April 15, 1887 when it was named after Mount Ogden. On May 25, 1907, South Jordan incorporated as a city and it has since grown to become one of the most populous towns in Utah with over 12,000 residents according to 2010 census estimates. The history of South Jordan can be traced back to 1847 when Brigham Young founded what would become Salt Lake City. At that time the land which makes up today's South Jordan was part of Johnson County. In 1850 Brigham Young designated sections of this area as an agricultural village called Winter Quarters for his own personal family and their followers who had come west from England during the Mormon Civil War (1838-48). During winter there they erected tents and built a stockade around their small settlement which they named "Winter Quarters". This small community grew rapidly due to its location and access to water supplies which were then very limited in Johnson County. From here Brigham Young sent settlers into central Utah where he saw potential investments for his new kingdom - including lands now encompassing downtown Salt Lake City. Back in 1857 Brigham Young organized a group of men called the First Presidency to explore claims eastward along what is now I-15 from Springdale through Provo Canyon towards Cedar City and Winter Quarters site (now known as Orem). After traveling through much of present-day Weber County they reported back that there were no good sites within reach for an outpost on this journey so they returned home without ever having set foot on American soil! Unfortunately for those earnest pioneers who set out from Winter Quarters only weeks later...the summer proved too hot and rugged for any human settlements north of Springdale so by fall 1857 all but two families living at Winter Quarters had been driven off again into Indian Territory by Ute Indians who had warred against Joseph Smith’s Latter Day Saints throughout this period.). As winter deepened people abandoned their homes again primarily because food became unavailable due to lack of trees or other resources outsideJohnsonCounty..southJordan evolved slowly into an agricultural community with some horticulture experimentation conducted by early settlers such as John Wittell (a founder member of LDS Church’s Agricultural Experiment Station) beginning in 1865 while others like Ezekiel Eberhart managed grain crops until 1870.. By 1880 southJordan contained around 100 households while four schools operated: one elementary school serving grades PreK-5th grade; one high school grades 6th-8th;one college preparatory schoolgrades 9th-12th; one adult institute (operated by LDS Church Youth Services Department) providing evening education leading up to high school graduation .. However it wasn't until 1886 when city fathers established streetscape designations such as Main Street/Frosty Oak Road/Reed Road/Mount Pleasant Avenue etcetera that southJordan began emerging as an important centerofcommerce withinUtah county.. Connections between cities throughoutUtah gradually developed with southJordan becoming Points West connection point between wards 3rd & 4th bloches /Alma Mater College Hospital via Seventh & Eighth Streets vernacular architecture typicalstatedby early settlers consisted mainly adobe buildings surrounded by prickly pear cactus walls with dirt floors
