Cupping is a method of brewing coffee that involves breaking the beans down into their component parts, such as ground coffee and steamed milk. This allows for a more tailored flavor profile and also exposes the bean to air and other elements that can interact with the taste and texture of coffee. Cupping enables brewers to get more flavor from their cups by taking advantage of all of the different flavors that each bean contains. The popularity of artisan coffee has been on rise in recent years, thanks in part to its unique flavors and high-quality standards. Many small-scale roasters have taken up cupping, hoping to learn how to produce great-tasting cup after cup of java. The process takes time and practice, but it's well worth it when you get to enjoy all those amazing flavor profiles that small-batch roasters are able to coax out of their beans.

As coffee became more popular in the United States, so too did its artisanal origins. One of the earliest examples of this type of coffee was made by a French couple named Pierre and Marie-Antoine Chassagne in the early 1800s. Their coffee beans were roasted on their own small farm near Vienne, France. As coffee became more popular in North America, similar operations began to arise throughout the continent. By 1853, two years after starting their business, Chassagne and his partners had opened six stores across five states in the Midwest. The first major wave of artisanal coffees came from Europe during World War II when soldiers returning home discovered that they could purchase high-quality beans from local roasters instead of purchasing those found at large grocery stores. This move allowed for smaller producers to challenge larger companies and gain a greater share of the market. The war also led to an increase in demand for premium coffee beans due to new economic opportunities and mounting tensions between different countries. As a result, many small roasters emerged throughout the postwar period as exporters of quality specialty coffee while others developed new production methods or simply exited the industry entirely. This shift towards more sustainable practices has continued over time as more people have become interested in sustainability and its implications on both our environment and our economy. Many small businesses now produce their own beans direct from where they grow while still complying with rigorous safety standards set by professional roasters such as Starbucks, pourover methods (such as drip), and extended roast times (up to three months). These days, many artisanal cafes refuse third-party contracts altogether because they believe that these types of interactions allow for better control over all aspects of production—from bean selection through shipping to customer service—and ensure that each cup is brewed with care."

The first coffee beans were roasted in the ancient Sumer region in 3,500 BC. Coffee was mentioned in texts as early as the 6th century AD. The Arab traders and travelers who traveled through the Middle East began purchasing coffee from the local farmers and shipping it back to their homes in Europe. The first European roasters started coming into existence around 1795. By 1810, coffee had spread to North America and was being traded among different cultures there. In 1847, a Dutchman named Hendrik Jan van Rijn introduced coffee to London by ship. This event is considered to be the beginning of the British tea trade. From then on, coffee became an important part of British culture and economy.
