The South Jordan Air Force Base gift history begins in the early 1940s when a group of local businessmen pooled their money to purchase an old Boeing bomber. The plane was christened the "Eagle" and was used by the Air National Guard. In 1945, South Jordan AFB became home to the first operational jet squadron in the United States when Republic F-94D Super Sabres were brought in for training. The squadron served until 1949, when it was moved to Topeka, Kansas. In 1957, South Jordan AFB became home to legendary predecessor unit base "Blue Angels". The Blue Angels flew supersonic jets and were one of only two air forces in the world that could fly them at high altitudes. From 1978-1981, South Jordan AFB operated McDonnell Douglas DC-9 jets as part of Operation Diamondback which aimed to revive American aerospace industry following deregulation. Homeported at Ramstein AB in Germany from 1991 until its closure in 2003,SouthJordanAFB played a significant role during America's involvement in both World Wars I and II as well as helping shape USAF doctrine during those times period.
South Jordan, Utah is a city in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. The population was 13,822 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Utah afterSalt Lake City. South Jordan is home to Brigham Young University and several other universities as well as churches such as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The first people to live in what became South Jordan were the Ute people. These people lived along the Wasatch Front between Salt Lake City and Provo until they were pushed out by settlers in 1847. They later moved to Cedar Mesa east of South Jordan. The area now known as South Jordan was first settled by Mormon pioneers on November 15, 1850, when James Wigham and his family set out from Nauvoo, Illinois on horseback for a new home in what would become Salt Lake County On January 25, 1861 James Wigham's daughter Precious Ann married Edward Cushing who had come over with George Quesnel and company from British Columbia that same year. On December 4th 1860 John Dibblee arrived from San Francisco with his party of twelve Pioneers and founded Cache Valley colony near present day Draper which he named after himself Dragna Devorah Dibblee
