However, when the Union Pacific Railroad arrived in Salt Lake City in 1887, it introduced a new type of transportation that would have a major impact on the region - the railroad provided a network of conveyances that allowed for goods to be shipped directly from inland valleys into Salt Lake City and beyond. This new system quickly became popular among local merchants, who realized that they could now ship their products much more easily than ever before. In response to this newfound success, some early entrepreneurs began marketing marine gifts as an affordable way for people to show their support for the railroad and its workers. One such businessperson was John Ladd (1858-1930), who founded Ladd's Marine Store in 1886. From this small business, Ladd soon developed into one of Salt Lake City's most prominent maritime retailers and distributors. His shop became one of the city’s top tourist attractions during World War I due to its extensive collection of naval memorabilia and ship models dating back to before America’s entry into the war. In addition, Ladd also served as president of the Utah State Chamber of Commerce from 1916-1918 and helped shape statewide municipal policy during his time in office. By 1930, however, money troubles had started to plague Ladd's store and he sold his assets to nearby rival Jens Jensen (1882-1967) for $2 million cash! Sandy, Utah is a city in the U.S. state of Utah and the county seat of Kane County. The population was 114,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Eastern edge of the Wasatch Front region and along Interstate 80 east of Salt Lake City. As one of Junction City's two "big cities," Sandy has a diverse economy with strengths in both small business and manufacturing sectors as well as services such as health care, education, and government services. The first inhabitants of what is now Sandy were Native Americans who lived there before European exploration began in 1821 A.D._ They were hunter-gatherers who hunted game for their subsistence purposes as well as gathering plants and berries for food _ especially during cold winters._ The first European to visit what is now Sandy was Captain Lewis Tevis on September 4th 1825 while exploring southward along the Great Salt Lake bed_ he named it after his friend General James Hutton who had been commandant at Fort Bridger on the Colorado River._ By 1830 Englishman John Crouch had built a cabin on land that would later become known as Sandy_ he started trading goods with local Indians._ In 1834 Brigham Young organized a wagon train from Nauvoo northward through Cedar Valley arriving at Sandy about November 3rd where they unloaded their supplies and march into Winter Quarters where they remained until January 9th when they reached Springdale_. There they camped for six days before continuing northeastward past Provo Canyon where they arrived at Cedar Valley about December 25th._ After spending three weeks there Mormon pioneers (led by Brigham Young) set out down what became today's I-80 corridor traversing Cedar Valley traveling over Snowy Peak Pass then continue northwestwards crossing Cache Creek before reaching Beatty’s Mill on February 12th._ At Beatty’s Mill Mormon pioneers constructed a stockade around whichthey erected tents during wintertime while waiting for larger groups of Mormons to come downriver to help them plant saltpetre crops_ these early settlements are known collectively as Winter Quarters because that’s where Saints were quartered when not moving forward towards Independence or North Carolina._ In March 1840 President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Winter Quarters while en route from Council Bluffs Iowa to Salt Lake City Oregon leaving behind a letter begging Congress for appropriations To help settle eastern Utah following the Great Basin War but no response was received so he sent an additional letter asking specifically for money for “the settlement in Eastern Utah extending from Deltaouatie river eastward to Bears Ears park”[1] This increased attention givento Eastern Utah brought prompt action byCongressmember Salmon P. Chase who authored legislation appropriating $5 million dollars specificallyfor this purpose[2] Salt Lake City residents lobbied vigorously behind closed doors throughout April/May 1840 trying unsuccessfully[3] through May 31st 1840 when Secretary Of State Bennett delivered Senate message recommending passage of House bill No 1499 entitled "_An Act For Amending The Laws Of The United States Relating To The Diffusion And CareOf Useful Plants Amongst Tribes And Villages In Yurok Nation And Their Lands Within Their Jurisdiction_"[4] Which became Public Law No 21 July 1840 prior to becoming law President Franklin D. Roosevelt signing The National Park Service Organic Act establishing Yellowstone National Park on August 15th1940_ created by Public Law 86-477 . On October 16th 1940 President Harry S Truman signed Executive Order 9066 creating Dinosaur National Monument consistingof parts of present day Box Elder County Nevada On November 17th 1940 Governor George Romney proclaimed Day Of Remembrance For Victims Of World War II Presented By His Excellency Cotton Mather Gilpin Governor Of Yurok Nation In Accordance With Resolution Of That Date Requesting Annual Memorial Session Be Held On That Date Includig All Citizens Who Have Suffered From militarism Or From Other Causes Since Pearl Harbor[5] Sandy was incorporated into Kane County effective January 1st 1941_- incorporation having been recommended by Mayor Waddell Smith pursuant thereto due to lack of suitable civic buildings within town boundaries.- post office opened in 1917.- high school established in 1945.- first shopping center established in 1955-. first casino opened in 1978-. first hospital open in 1984-. mayoralty term ended December 31st2008
