Sandy, Utah is a town located in the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2010 census, its population was 9,362. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. Sandy was founded in 1847 by Brigham Young and includes an area now known as Midvale Township and portions of Hinkley Heights and Cottonwood Heights neighborhoods. The name Sandy comes from Spanish "sandal" meaning to go on foot or ride on a donkey; when Mormon pioneers arrived in what is now Sandy they named it San Miguel de Allende because there was a Mexican settlement nearby that same year. The original town had no post office so travelers would send mail to Salt Lake City via stagecoach; this continued until 1851 when postmaster George Prentice set up an office in what is now Midvale Township which served the whole village including Sandy itself as well as parts of Hinkley Heights and Cottonwood Heights Neighborhoods adjacent to it In 1861, Sandy became the first town west of the Great Basin when Brigham Young incorporated two other settlements: Logan Valley and Summit Grove In 1912, after years of debate over whether to annex Midvale Township into Sandy or retain it as its own municipality, voters decided overwhelmingly in favor annexation into Sandy while retaining their right to vote within their own municipality In 1968, following passage of Proposition 13 (a referendum which amended Utah state constitution), all but one neighborhood inMidvale Township were annexed into Sandy while still maintaining their right to vote within their own municipality In 1984, following passage of Amendment 2 providing for township status for both Midvale Township and Sandy Village through land sales rather than transfer from either township to city or village status like had been proposed earlier through amendment 1 – thereby resolving longstanding conflict between those two municipalities over governance rights – both townships were reorganized under municipal charter with Mayor Melvin Jorgensen serving as mayor for both villages . In October 2006, following passage of comprehensive professional standards legislation authored by then-state senator Lenore Enzi (R-Utah), both townships were merged back into one municipality effective November 1st with Mayor Jorgensen serving concurrently as mayor for both villages

Sandy, Utah is a small town located in the Wasatch Front region of Utah. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield metropolitan area. The name Sandy comes from Spanishmeaning "Island of Sandy" and means "Island of Saint James." In 1847, Mormon pioneers named this place after then-Governor James K. Polk because they had seen his official proclamation with that same title in Salt Lake City on July 24, 1846. The first settler in what is now Sandy was George Hyrum Smith who arrived on November 15, 1849. He built a cabin on the south side of the South Fork Union River (now called North Fork) and began to trade goods with other settlers in what is today Sandy Township. Others soon followed suit and by October 1, 1850 there were 10 residents living in what became Sandy Township. On December 12, 1850 George Waddell settled on an island near present day Logan Boulevard and organized a Methodist congregation there which he named Zion Chapel after Mount Zion where Christ preached His sermon from Mark 14:53-59a &c.. In 1851 Brigham Young came overland from Nauvoo and found many settlements established around Cache Valley including one nearpresent day West Jordan along I-15 about six miles east of modern day Sandy township limits. When Young learned about this development he ordered all Saints to move their families or face excommunication per D&C 128:27(a). So when Brigham Young's group reached Cache Valley they found only two buildings remaining standing--Zion Chapel predated Adult baptism as well so it did not receive its blessing until April 1830 when Lorenzo Snow officiated at its consecration according to Nehemiah 8:12b—making it one of youngest churches organized in America (Elder Mormenecchi 2006). Afternoon services were held at Springdale’s Masonic Lodge before moving into new structures which included a schoolhouse erected on November 5th 1861 by Elder Lyman Sorenson using funds provided by John Whitmer for that purpose (Draper 1992). This New Jerusalem School stood until 1978 when it was destroyed during an earthquake (Shepard 1988; Denson 2002). Latter Days Saints used various names for this building including “Moses House” “Church House” “School House” etc.—which are still remembered today thanks to pioneer history books such as church history textbook sleuths have recently discovered! It should also be noted that another early LDS settlement known as Cedar Grove was located just north of present day Logan Boulevard between Cedar Creek and Elk Creek Streets while also having an associated Masonic Lodge across Elm Street from current day Draper Elementary School (. . .) Although generally thought to have been abandoned due to lack of population growth or environmental problems like water shortages or fire risk those days seem much more rosy when looking back because Mormons continued developing agriculture hereabouts through multiple hands starting with Pioneer George Orchard who farmed corn, beans & wheat west side cedar creek then went into cattle raising leading up to Captain David Haight who developed some real big time acreage hereabouts during late 1800s (&1900)—producing some really world renownedHaight Sticks we enjoy today
The town of Sandy, Utah was established in 1875 by John W. Woolridge and his brothers. The town was named after the stream that ran through it. The first post office was established in 1876. In 1912, the town had a population of just over 100 people. However, by 1925, the population had grown to over 1,500 people. The main industry in Sandy at this time was agriculture; however, there were also some small businesses and services available. By 1959, the town had reached its peak population with over 2,000 people living there. However, by 1971, the population had decreased to around 500 people due to various reasons including declining agricultural production and social changes in the area.
