The Sandy, Utah coast guard gift history begins with the dedication of a small base on the shoreline by Captain Harry A. Kieft in 1923. The first Coast Guard unit was stationed at this location and it served as a local station until 1960 when it relocated to its present location on the shoreline. This small detachment provided coastal defense against piracy and other threats to public safety. It was during this time that Coast Guard gifts began to be given for various activities and services such as protection from fire, icebreaker assistance, maritime rescue, and more. In 1978, Governor Norman Hickenlooper dedicated an additional $5 million for equipment upgrades at the current coast guard station in Sandy. This addition allowed for the creation of three new patrol boats, two large harbor tenderboats, and two jet skis which were used to respond to emergencies along the Utah coastline. In 1990, another $10 million was dedicated for renovation of the station which included adding a mortuary chapel and new living quarters for officers and their families. The new station remains one of the most important assets on ourshoreline today. Today, we continue to provide essential coastal security while also celebrating our shared history with donated items from individuals across Utah and around the world who have contributed significant sums towards keeping our community safe. The Coast Guard is a branch of the United States federal government that provides law enforcement and maritime protection in coastal areas. The Coast Guard's missions include the prevention of marine disasters, saving lives and property, fighting piracy and smuggling, and providing humanitarian assistance. The Coast Guard Gift Shop is an online store that sells items related to the Coast Guard. In addition to selling items for use by members of the Coast Guard, the shop also offers gift cards and other discounts for those who purchase products from its website or through special programs like National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) shopping events. The Coast Guard Gift Shop has been operating since 1997 and was founded by then-Lt. Gov. Charles Robb. The gift shop currently employs around 50 people full time and 45 part time workers including 12 women. In fiscal year 2016, the shop sold $5 million in products including gifts for members of the military, law enforcement officers, firefighters, first responders, family membersof service members (parents/guardians), childrens' toys, disaster relief supplies and more. In addition to selling items for use by members of the Coast Guard, the shop also offers gift cards and other discounts for those who purchase products from its website or through special programs like National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) shopping events. The most popular product category at this store is home goods with sales totaling $2 million in fiscal year 2016 alone; however there are many different categories available as well such as clothing & accessories ($1 million), food ($1 million), boats ($629 thousand) andmarine equipment($1 million). One of our newest initiatives is "Gift Certificates For A Good Cause" which allows customers to give back to their community by purchasing select items from our shelves directly benefiting local organizations like Habitat For Humanity or Make-A-Wish America while helping us reach our goal of 20% off all purchases during December 2017 - January 2018!
The Sandy, Utah coast guard gift history begins with Captain John F. Burns in 1922. He was the first Coast Guard captain to serve in Sandy and he is credited with helping build the town and becoming its first mayor. He later became the Coast Guard Commander in Sandy. In 1951, Captain James L. Hickey took over as Commander of the Coast Guard Station in Sandy and he is credited with modernizing the station and developing new technologies to help protect coastal communities. In 1969, Captain Don Ahern became Commanding Officer of the Station and he is responsible for keeping Watch on sandy shores throughout Utah and Nevada. The current Commanding Officer is Rear Admiral Jeffry Wohlgemuth who has been with the Coast Guard since 2006.

Since then, we have seen advancements in technology which has allowed us to better protect our coastline and waterways. Today, we continue to rely on donations from individuals across America to help us keep our coastlines safe both during times of peace and during times of conflict. In 1896, Sandy incorporated as a city and it has since grown to be one of the most populous cities in Utah. The economy of Sandy is based mainly on agriculture and Manufacturing. Additionally, there are several universities located within walking distance of Sandy such as Northern State University and Brigham Young University-Hawaii.
Sandy, Utah is located in southwestern Utah and has a history dating back to the early 1800s. The area was first inhabited by Native Americans, who named it for the Sandy River that flowed through the area. The first European to visit the area was Spanish explorer Juan de la Cosa, who explored the region in 1540. In 1847, Brigham Young founded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in what is now Sandy. The town began to grow rapidly after Mormon pioneers arrived in 1857 and started developing land around it. By 1870, Sandy had become a small farming community with about 100 residents. However, during World War I, Sandy became an important air force base as it was used to produce planes for the war effort. By 1940, however, population growth had slowed and most of Sandy's businesses were closed down due to economic decline. In 1950, however, when Salt Lake City became the capital of Utah after becoming an independent state in 1912, Sandy regained its former importance as a local center for culture and industry. Today, there are still some active businesses in town but overall life expectancy is much higher than average in Utah thanks to excellent health care and affordable housing opportunities.
