The Riverton National Guard was organized on September 16, 1923. The first unit to be organized was the 1st Cavalry Regiment. The 1st Cavalry Regiment served in World War II and the Korean War. In 1955, the 2nd Infantry Brigade was organized. It served in the Vietnam War and then returned home in 1975. On November 15, 1991, the 3rd Infantry Brigade was organized within the Riverton National Guard. It served in Operation Desert Storm and then Bosnia-Herzegovina. Since 1997, the 4th Infantry Brigade has been part of Riverton National Guard. It has served in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in New Orleans.

The Riverton National Guard was organized on September 15, 1885. The first unit to arrive in Riverton was the 4th Regiment of Utah Infantry. This regiment had been mustered into service on April 20, 1885. The first assignment for the 4th Regiment was as a garrison unit at Fort Douglas which was located in Provo, UT. On October 3, 1885 the regiment left Fort Douglas and arrived at Pleasant Grove Army Depot where they were assigned to duty as guards around the depot. In December 1885 the regiment moved to Salt Lake City and served as guard around the State Capitol until February 1886 when they were transferred back to Fort Douglas where they remained until November 1889 when they were reassigned to Camp Floyd near Loganville, GA. On January 1, 1890 the regiment left Camp Floyd and arrived in Ogden where they garrisoned three military posts which included Fort Hays State Park and on January 12, 1890 set up camp outside of Salt Lake City for an indefinite period of time before being discharged on May 8, 1890. On July 5, 1896 a detachment of Company F3 consisting of two officers and twenty-six enlisted men from Riverton who had volunteered for service in Mexico went on leave with orders to return home through Arizona however never reached their destination after getting lost in Mexican territory. They are known as The Lost Battalion or The Gilded Cage Battalion because their gold medals were confiscated upon their return trip from Mexico. In 1895 there had been an increase in incidents involving Indians so President Grover Cleveland ordered that all troops be withdrawn from Indian Territory effective February 16, 1896 pending a report from Secretary Morrison about how best to handle these situations without raising any alarms among the tribesmen who would then become hostile if allowed back into their own land without government protection Riverton's National Guard contributed nothing during this time frame other than providing security for state buildings while troops were away
Riverton is a town in Juab County, Utah, United States. The population was 3,521 at the 2010 census. Riverton is the county seat of Juab County. It is located on the Clear Fork of the Virgin River and borders Davis City to the north, Park City to the east, and Spanish Fork to the south. The origins of Riverton are unknown but it likely began as two small settlements – Springdale and Pleasant Grove – on opposite banks of the Clear Fork of the Virgin River. In 1875, Springdale was abandoned when prospectors discovered oil shale near present-day Springdale. A few years later, Pleasant Grove was abandoned when gold was found in what is nowuvial bed around its location. When springs became available for water distribution in 1882, settlers named their settlement after Mount Pleasant (a peak in what is now DavisCity). In 1902, Consolidated Mining Company leased land along both banks of the Clear Fork from Brigham Young University for $1 per acre ($25 per mile). Coal mining began soon after and continued until 1942 when uranium mining took over as Valley’s primary industry. Riverton is a city in Utah, United States. It was founded in 1877 by John C. Fremont and his family as the town of Riverton on the Blue Mesa Creek. The name was changed to Riverton in 1907 after the merging of two other towns, Highland and Cottonwood. In 1940, Riverton became an incorporated city under the name of Salt Lake City. The population was 26,362 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now Utah were Mormon missionaries who traveled through this area in 1847-48 led by Brigham Young. They named their new settlement Zion aftertein—the place where they had seen a vision in which God would establish His kingdom on earth. The area that is now Riverton was part of Weber County until it was organized into Logan County on November 16, 1850. On December 1, 1850, Logan County divided itself into two parts: one with Riverton as its headquarter and the other with Cedar City as its seat. Cedar City received land from Weber County while Riverton got land from Logan County In 1877, John C Fremont organized a wagon train from Ogden to Provo for supplies during what turned out to be his final winter before he left Nauvoo for California; he named his new town after himself and his journey’s endpoint: “Riverton” (Hebrew רוגאורן). He arrived there on February 14th and started construction of Fort Bridger which eventually served as the headquarters for all eastern Utah Territory during the early years of statehood when there were only six counties inUtah Territory: Beaver, Carbonate (Cache Valley), Cummins (Cottonwood), Iron Counties (Deseret Valley), Juab (Junction) and Stinson Ferry Counties combined into one single jurisdiction called Deseret News District No 2 on April 15th 1861 due toesystematic problems caused by overlapping jurisdictions within territorial government resulting from Mexican American War boundaries changes made without consulting LDS church leaders or vote among Utah Mormons living east ofSalt Lake City – most notably Bishop Anthon Hinkley who lived near West Jordan Junction – Hosmer Field; A map dated October 10th 1860 shows just how rapidly things have changed since then with Cedar City being located about halfway between Provo and Salt Lake City along Blue Mesa Creek; northsouthBoundaries are defined by Cache Creek which forms our southern border then Daggett Plain extends northwestward forming our northwestern boundary then Draper Plain stretches northeastward forming our eastern boundary finally ending up near South Jordan Junction forming our international borders with Canada & Mexico
Riverton was founded in 1847 by the Utah Territorial Legislature as the town of West Jordan. The name Riverton comes from a stream that runs through the town. The first post office was established in 1848, and the first store was opened in 1850. In 1861, Riverton became a county seat and remained so until 1912. It also served as a capital from 1862 to 1865. In 1912, Riverton merged with Provo to form the current city of Provo.
