The Marine Barracks in Riverton, Utah were the first U.S. military installation in the Salt Lake Valley and served as a garrison for Marines during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). The structure was completed in 1851 and replaced an earlier barracks that had been built in 1836. It is one of only a few remaining buildings from the original Salt Lake garrison. The Marine Barracks and Chapel were used as a temporary home for troops during World War I (1914-18). The chapel was destroyed by fire on May 7, 1918, but the Marine Barracks survived and was used as a storage depot until it was closed down in 1978. It reopened as part of the Utah State Capitol Complex after being renovated and enlarged. In 1990, Marines from Company C, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines moved into residence at the Marine Barracks in Riverton following their deployment to Operation Desert Storm (1990-1991). The battalion vacated its previous barracks location on December 1, 1990. Today, Marines from Company C continue to live at the Marine Barracks in Riverton with access to all of its facilities including pause/recovery rooms, kitchens and laundry units.
Riverton is a small town in Utah, located about 25 miles north of Ogden. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Riverton began as a small Mormon outpost on the banks of the Weber River in 1847 and became an agricultural center after irrigation systems were developed in the area. The town took its name from the river and its namesake, General George Smith, who served as governor of Utah from 1861 to 1865. Today, Riverton is a thriving community with a diverse range of businesses and residents. The town's history dates back to 1847 when Mormons established their fort at what is now Riverton. The fort was abandoned in 1849 but it soon became apparent that river transportation was needed to bring goods into the burgeoning town. A group of settlers formed a company to transport goods upriver and founded the first post office in 1850. In 1862, General George Smith became governor of Utah and decided that Fort Bridger should be renamed “Riverton” in honor of his predecessor. After years of growth, Riverton reached its peak during World War II when over 10,000 people lived and worked here. However, after the war ended, economic conditions began to decline throughout much of America due to recessionary forces such as automation and foreign competition. Despite this challenge, RiverTON continued to grow throughthe years until 2000 when it reached its current size thanks largely to annexation by neighboring Ogden City. Today, Riverton remains an active community with vibrant nightlife and cultural opportunities available for locals and visitors alike; it is also home to many businesses which provide important local employment opportunities for locals as well as visitors looking for services or products not found elsewhere within our great stateof Utah!

Beginning on December 7th 1941, marines gathered at Marine Barracks Quantico MD where they boarded transports for amphibious assaults against Iwo Jima and Okinawa………. After three months of continuous combat against overwhelming odds (10 times their number), American forces had liberated all six main islands from Japanese rule….. Postwar Marine Corps installations around the world continued to be manned by veteran servicemen untilactivated on July 1st 1959….. In 1965, President Johnson signed legislation designating Memorial Day as a National Holiday to honor all those who have died during wartime…. On November 15th 1978 Congress passed Publius v. United States No 514 which limited how much money commanders could spend on personal expenses without having specific budget proposals before Congress…. During Operation Neptune’s Spear (October 1988 – January 1989), over 3000 Marines served aboard USS Coral Sea (CVN 72) providing air cover for Task Force 58 assault helicopters while conducting search operations off Samar Island

Riverton is a small town in Utah, located on the banks of the Jordan River. It was founded by Mormons in 1847. The town was named after its founder, Brigham Young. The first residents of Riverton were mostly farmers and their families. They grew corn, wheat, barley and other crops and built homes near the river fords to enjoy the views. By 1860, however, the population had increased to about 100 people and the need for a school became apparent. A schoolhouse was built in 1862 and served as a local center for education until it burned down in 1922. In that year, a new school building was constructed at what is now Main Street and Riverton began to grow rapidly as an agricultural community. In 1922, when the United States Postal Service moved its mail from Provo to Riverton due to increasing postage rates there, they also erected a post office which remains in use today. The growth of Riverton led to subdivision along main streets beginning around 1930. This caused some traffic congestion but it also opened up more opportunities for businesses to locate in the town because roads were better developed then than they are today. Some of these businesses still operate today such as Barnes-Clothing Store which has been open since 1907 and Clark's Barbecue which opened up shop in 1957. In recent years, though, many small businesses have closed or relocated out of town because of lack of business opportunity or competition from larger retailers downtown. As one of only two towns remaining within Kane County (the other being Logan),Riverton has seen recent growth with development taking place on both sides of I-15 including physician offices and several high-end condos/hotels planned for the near future addition to what is already an impressive downtown district Today there are plenty of events happening throughout Town Square culminating with Christmas Eve parade & fireworks show each year giving everyone something special to do while living close by!
The first European to visit Riverton was Juan Rodríguez de Montoya in 1611. The town was founded by the Mormon pioneers in 1847, and it became a U.S. city on July 24, 1907.
