When LDS Church president David O. McKay moved to Ogden in 1922, he recommended thatriverton be established as a mission center for BYU. On November 5, 1925, President McKay announced that Riverton would become an independent city. In 1933, local farmers formed the "Utah Valley Grain Growers' Cooperative." They started marketing grain to area residents and developed a millinery and fabric store in downtown Riverton. The cooperative generated enough wealth to build a bank and attract businesses such as restaurants and hotels around 1960-1970 when riverTON became known as one of America's most affluent small towns

Riverton is a small town in Utah, located on the Wasatch Front. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ogden-Provo-Omaha Metropolitan Statistical Area. Riverton got its name from the river that flowed through it and one of its residents, Lorenzo Rice, donated land to make a town site. Creek people had been living in present-day Riverton for many years before that. On October 16, 1847, Brigham Young announced to the Saints in Nauvoo that he would establish a new city called Nauvoo and named it after Lorenzo Rice's home town of Riverton, England. The Saints were not happy with this choice but acquiesced because they wanted to avoid any confusion about where they were going and what they were doing. The first settler in Riverton was George Stephenson who arrived on May 4, 1848. He founded a small post office near present day Main Street and built his house on lot number 9B which still stands today as part of the old post office building. Stephenson also erected a store and schoolhouse at this location which are now used as apartments by residents of Riverton. In 1850 John Atheridge arrived from Illinois with his family and set up shop along Main Street opposite Stephenson's store (now known as Keystone Avenue). Atheridge became an important figure in earlyriverton society because he was able to trade goods with other settlements in Northern Utah Territory and help build roads connecting these settlements with Salt Lake City. Many settlers moved into Riverton during the early years due to high demand for labor on Iowan farmlands newly surveyed for irrigation purposes by Brigham Young’s men following their return from Missouri City expedition No.(see map below). Many farmers brought their families over when they came out prospecting or when they found land grants along the Wasatch Front grantees did not want their families scattered among them so much as join forces with others nearby to form villages or towns centralizing all agricultural production under one roof for increased efficiency.)
