Pleasant Grove, Utah is a small town in Sevier County, Utah. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cedar City–Provo, UT Micropolitan Statistical Area. Pleasant Grove was founded in 1847 by James Groom and his family. Pleasant Grove is named for Colonel John Ephraim Pleasant who served as commander of the First Utah Cavalry during the Mexican-American War. Many of the early pioneers were farmers and ranchers who settled in what is now Pleasant Grove because of its fertile soils and proximity to Cache Valley. The first school in Pleasant Grove was built on a lot donated by David Waddell in 1849. The school burned down but was rebuilt and became an academy in 1861. In 1865, when some local settlers decided to secede from Utah, they moved into what would become known as Pleasant Grove Township. The town's first store opened up on Main Street in 1881 and remained open until it closed in 1961 due to budget cuts by then Mayor Harry Hebert. The last store closing also happened to be one of the few businesses that actually did well during the recession that hit westernUtah hard during those years. In 1984, two brothers started a construction company called Hebert Brothers Construction which still operates out of town today with over 100 employees including many women who have worked at the company since its inception Hebert Brothers Construction has been involved with various projects throughout Sevier County such as widening US-6 near Cedar City, erecting new fencing along US-6 near Laytonville, constructing a new elementary school south of town and much more Today there are several grocery stores (Grocery Outlet), three restaurants (Casa Grande Italian Grill & Pasta Shop), two banks (Banco Anglo American Bank & Trust Company & State Bank) and several other businesses like Home Depot, Lowe’s Hardware Store and Jiffy Lube across from Main Street which makes this small town feel very connected both culturally and economically .
