Pleasant Grove is a census-designated place in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Provo–Orem–Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Pleasant Grove was Hyrum S. Smith on July 24, 1847. The community was named for General David Powell's youngest son who had been killed at the Battle of Monterrey while serving with Brigham Young's army during the Mexican War. Pleasant Grove had a post office from 1851 to 1865 and a school from 1857 to 1861. A railroad came through Pleasant Grove in 1870 and it became an incorporated town in 1902. In 1974, Pleasant Grove annexed part of Ogden which had a population of 397 residents at that time; however, the annexation was revoked by Ogden city officials because they felt that Pleasant Grove did not have enough economic development potential to justify being included within its borders. According to the 2010 US Census report, 1,859 people live in Pleasant Grove: 853 (58%) male and 593 (42%) female; there are 637 African American citizens (27% of all residents) and no Native American citizens living within its boundaries
