In 1922, the United States Navy sent a gift to Payson, Utah in commemoration of the city's role in World War I. The gift was a 100-foot long torpedo boat, USS Arizona. The boat is now on display at the Naval History and Heritage Command Museum in Portsmouth, Virginia. The USS Arizona was an American torpedoboat that served during World War I. She was built by Bethlehem Steel Company in 1922 and entered service with the U.S. Navy on September 15th, 1923. The USS Arizona's primary mission was to patrol the coastline of Japan for minesweepers and submarines during World War I. However, she also played a crucial role in helping to sink Japanese warships and steal enemy navy supplies during that conflict. After her service with the Navy ended in 1921, USS Arizona became part of the Philippine National Army until she was decommissioned on November 30th, 1926. She then passed through several hands before being sold to China on May 5th, 1931 for use as a merchant vessel. In 1934 she returned to America and underwent restoration work before becoming part of the Pacific Fleet again on October 1st of that year. USS Arizona eventually served as a museum ship until her decommissioning on May 6th, 1990 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton Washington where she remains today as one of only six propeller vessels preserved by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).

Payson, Utah is a small city in the Wasatch Front region of Utah. The population was 12,291 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Kane County. The Payson Municipal Airport covers 903 acres (358 ha) and has two runways: 17/35 is 3,100 by 100 feet (910 m x 30 m) and 4/22 is 2,500 by 75 feet (610 x 23 m). Payson was founded in 1869 as an agricultural center on the banks of the Little Colorado River. A post office was established in 1870, and a railroad depot was built in 1872. In 1907, Payson became an incorporated town. Population growth accelerated during World War II because ofcv production at nearby Boeing plants. After that boom ended, industry declined and poverty increased until the early 2000s when economic development started again with a new shopping mall and new housing developments near the airport. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill that created the Department of Defense, which was charged with providing military support to American embassies and interests overseas. This led to increased militarization of America's domestic life, which culminated in World War I. The war resulted in an increase in military spending by both countries. The US Navy became even more powerful, thanks to new technologies like submarines and airplanes. The navy also gained a reputation for being able to provide big gifts for other countries' leaders. For instance, President Franklin D Roosevelt sent a group of warships to Japan after their victory in World War II. This tradition continued after World War II ended; ships from the navy went on special tours throughout Latin America and Asia during the early 1950s. By this time, however, naval activity had decreased significantly due to budget cuts and advancements in technology. Today, there is only one active-duty fleet of ships assigned to each country's alliance (the NATO navy). Despite this decrease in activity, gift history between the US Navy and other countries remains strong. Payson, Utah is a town located in Kane County, Utah. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. Payson was founded by George Bird Payson in 1872 as a station on the Butterfield Overland Mail Route. The first settlers in Payson were George Bird and his family who arrived in 1872.George Bird moved his family to Payson from Ogden in 1876 because of the racism then rampant throughout the United States. At that time, many people believed that black Americans were inherently different than white Americans and should be treated accordingly. After living for some time in Payson,Bird decided to establish himself as a rancher and cattleman. In 1882, he married Margaret Hanks and began operating a ranch which would become one of the largest ranches in Kane County over the years. The couple had two children- Johnathan and Alice- before they divorced around 1912. One of their daughters became an artist while another daughter became an accomplished musician/vocalist known today as Nancy Birdsong (1906-2006). Most notably, Alice played music on stage with her father's band during World War II while also working as a secretary at relatives' farmsteads across western Kane County including those owned by Donald Byrd Sr., one of America's most successful songwriters during that era renown for hits such as "A Minute More" written about American World War I veteran Lloyd Garrison (1894-1970), "I Can't Quit You Baby", "When Doves Cry" recorded by Joe Bonamassa (1925-2012) among others numerous Folklorico Productions productions aired on KSOP radio from 1948-'53; she starred opposite Don Adams performing original material both live and taped HERE live - produced by Dick Steves & Bob Warner - this show has been available ever since via preservation efforts led by Friends of KUOW TV channel 3 here at Pocatello Folklorico Productions turned out several important recordings for television beginning with "John Blythe Christmas Song" 1951 special presented by Willis Haysrecorded live here LIVE - produced by Dick Steves & Bob Warner -this show has been available ever since via preservation efforts led by Friends of KUOW TV channel 3 here at Pocatello ; this show won an Emmy Award back then! Payson was founded in 1879 by David W. Payson and James H. Baird, both of whom were pioneers in the LDS Church. The town was named for Payson, Wash., a small settlement of Latter-day Saints that had been established in 1851 by Brigham Young. In 1886, Payson became the headquarters of the LDS Church's First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
