The Ogden National Guard was organized on Dec. 6, 1907, in Ogden by Col. Harry W. Black and Lt. Col. Franklin Wylie. The first unit to be mobilized was the 9th Regiment of Utah Infantry, which turned out to be the only one raised in that city before World War I. In 1916, the National Guard detachment within the newly created Department of Defense was augmented with an infantry regiment from Salt Lake City and two cavalry regiments from Provo and Logan Counties as well as a Battery C (Horse Artillery) from Cottonwood Heights east of town. These units were called into federal service forWorld War I under President Woodrow Wilson’s call for “a volunteer army without regulars” and saw action at Ypres ( Belgium), Arras ( France), Passchendaele ( Holland), Salonika ( Greece) and Verdun ( France). When World War II began, the military establishment had grown appreciably so that on Oct. 16, 1941—the day after Pearl Harbor—the National Guard Bureau released a statement stating: “It is hereby proposed that all units now or hereafter enlisted in this country become members of the Army or Navy immediately upon enlistment instead of being discharged at once as is now practiced … This change will result in saving many men who would otherwise have to leave their homes early for military service and could not afford to do so…. In addition thereto it will make it possible for those who are temporarily needed anywhere to be called back home sooner than they might otherwise be able to because there would no longer be any excuse for them not serving our country when called upon to do so…. The National Guard Bureau desires you all solemnly swear not to desert your post during wartime…. It is my hope that you will take advantage of this offer while it still remains open." The initialActive Duty strength of the Ogden NATIONAL GUARD was 1st Battalion, 9th Regiment UTI Infantry; 2d Battalion 7th Cavalry; 3d Battalion 8th Cavalry; 4th Brigade Combat Team 1st Cavalry Division; 2d Brigade Combat Team 3rd Cavalry Division; 5th Brigade Combat Team 2nd Cavalry Division; 6th Brigade Combat Team 1st Armored Division were each activated with an authorized strength of 100 officers and 10500 enlisted men but these numbers were quickly depleted by mobilization for overseas duty beginning on December 15TH 1941 due largelyto lack of funding following Pearl Harbor . On January 17TH 1942 activation orders arrived ordering all units except Headquarters & Headquarters Company deserters must turn over their weapons "or face court-martial" On February 12TH 1942 court-martial proceedings commenced against 133 officers/enlisted personnel including Captains James Aiken(9 th Regiment UTI Infantry) , Lieutenants George Aiken(7 th Cav.), John Jugan(8 th Cav.)and John Sheehan(6 th Cav .)for disobeying orders received prior to mobilization

The Military is a huge and diverse society. There are legions of men and women who serve in uniform, some for years on end, others for only a few months or years. In any given year, there may be as many as 1 million military personnel serving in the United States Military. Almost all of these people areVolunteers or Reservists, but there are also National Guard Units that are fielded by the Military. The National Guard is made up of citizens from all walks of life who have pledged their time to help protect their community or country from harm. Some members serve full-time while others volunteer their time on an rotating basis; however, all Guardsmen share one common goal: to protect our freedom and way of life. National Guard units can come in many different shapes and sizes, but they all share one common goal: to provide support to the Armed Forces during times of peace or crisis. From state militias to combat brigades, there is no unit that cannot be counted on when it comes to emergency services or disaster relief. And just because a unit doesn’t exactly have an active duty mission doesn’t mean that it isn’t important – every Guardsman helps contribute both militarily and emotionally to his/her community by volunteering his/her time and resources. There are currently over 350 National Guard units stationed throughout the United States Army (and 100 National Guard Units stationed within the Department of Homeland Security). Each National Guard unit has its own insignia and colors (usually green) which contrast starkly against those worn by the regular military forces. Many Guardsmen choose this opportunity not only because they love being with their fellow volunteers but also because they understand how important it is for our Armed Forces to have access to trained manpower at any time needed - whether that's during peacetime emergencies like Hurricanes Katrina or Sandy or during wartime missions likeOperation Enduring Freedom).

The Utah National Guard was created in 1917 as a part of the Second World War effort. The unit has grown and changed over the years, but its history in Ogden is extremely descriptive and includes some of the most memorable gifts ever given to the organization. In 1948, Ogden Mayor Clifford L. Steele donated an armored personnel carrier (APC) to the Utah National Guard. This gift helped make Utah one of the first states in the country to recognize military service by their citizens. The vehicle was usedThroughout both world wars and is still used today by units in Utah. In 1978, local business owner Don Kapp donated a helicopter to the guard unit. This donation allowed for many jobs to be opened up for soldiers and their families living in Ogden during peacetime. Additionally, money raised through various events such as car sales conventions have also been put towards providing equipment and training for state police officers in nearby Weber County and other areas within the state.

Ogden, Utah is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,695 at the 2010 census. Ogden is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The first permanent residents of what is now Ogden were pioneers who explored the region in the early 1800s. The town was founded by George Clapp and others in 1868 as a stop on the road between Provo and Salt Lake City. In 1880, Ogden became an incorporated municipality with a population of 514; it reverted to its original name in 1896 when it joined the larger city of Salt Lake City. The National Guard has a rich history of giving back to society. From providing support during times of peace and war, to helping with special needs and disaster relief, the National Guard has done plenty in its past. One of the most famous contributions made by the National Guard is their role in President John F Kennedy’s assassination. On November 22nd, 1963, president JFK was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald while dining at the Ambassador Hotel in Dallas. The National Guard was called into action and provided security for JFK as he left the restaurant. This act of bravery helped show the nation that the National Guard could be counted on when needed. In recent years, it has become more popular for members of the military to donate money to organizations such as The Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity. For members of theNational Guard, this option is an easy way to give back to society in a meaningful way. Not only are these donations helping others directly, but they also help keep our troops safe and healthy while on duty.

The National Guard has been Gifts to the United States of America since 1792.
