The North Ogden Coast Guard Station was founded on December 12, 1916 as the first Coast Guard station in Utah. The original station was located at the mouth of the Weber River. The present-day station is located onshore near Cottonwood Cove. In 1951, the Coast Guard Station moved to its present location and began hosting a helicopter squadron. In 1984, the Coast Guard Station erected a new Command Center which has been used for many purposes including training officers and members of other agencies.
North Ogden, Utah is a small town in Davis County, Utah. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. The first European to visit the area was Mormon Church founder Joseph Smith in 1847. A post office called North Ogden was established in 1865, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. North Ogden has been home to the Weber Faculty Research Center since its establishment in 1984. Mormon missionaries began arriving to North Ogden in 1872 and1876. By 1890 there were over 100 Latter-day Saints living here. The first LDS temple built in Utah was located here; it replaced an earlier temple on First US Route 50 that had been destroyed by a fire two years earlier. Some of the early settlers were among those who left Nauvoo, Illinois after the city's proscription of polygamy by the LDS church led to aensus showing only 8% Mormon residents within 25 miles of Nauvoo as of 1880 though this number had increased to 30% by 1890 due to growth within Davis County from ranching and farming activity In 1907 President George Q. Cannon directed all wards across Davis County be consolidated into one ward so that centralized accounting and organization would improve administration for family welfare programs throughout the county This merger resulted in 2238 square miles (8609 km²) of land being annexed into North OgDEN with about 12%. Today’s population is almost 3 times what it was when consolidated with other wards twenty years ago!
