The Utah National Guard was created on August 15, 1907. The first unit was organized at the Logan City Hall. At that time, it consisted of three companies. On November 11, 1911, the state legislature passed a bill creating an additional battalion of the National Guard and enlarging its size to 10 companies. The new battalion became known as the Logan Volunteer Infantry Battalion and was stationed at various local military installations until 1917 when it was relocated to Fort Douglas Army Air Base in Deseret County. In 1924, the battalion participated in World War I Memorial Day exercises at White Sands Proving Ground in New Mexico. From 1925-1927, Logan served as Headquarters for Department of Defense Texas Maneuver Training Center which conducted maneuvers near El Paso and Ciudad Juárez Mexico during that period. 1951 saw the conversion of Fort Douglas into an armory and in 1954-1955 inactive units were reactivated by order of then Governor John Hinkley to provide security for newly opened Salt Lake City Olympics. In 1962-1963 active units were reactivated again by order of then Lieutenant Governor Gordon Boggs due to concerns over possible nuclear detonations around Weber County while Expo '62 took place in Salt Lake City; however this did not last long as all activity came to a halt after revelations about these activations from within government circles which embarrassed both governors. When Helaman Air Force Base closed down effective October 1st 1966 most Utah National Guard troops transferred there except for Companies A & C who continued their training at Helaman AFB until July 1967 when they transferred back home officially becoming part of the Regular Army Reserve Components headquartered at Provo Airport since 1968 with only a few soldiers remaining garrisoned there through 1971 ( remainder being deployed with US Marine Corps forces element currently located there). Since 1976 most active troops have been based out of Heber Springs Municipal Airport providing airlift support for winter operations or conducting other guard activities such as counterdrug missions when needed elsewhere in Utah or neighbouring states
Logan, Utah is a town located in Richfield County, Utah, United States. The population was 3,044 at the 2010 census. Logan is home to Brigham Young University (BYU), one of the most prestigious universities in the United States. It also has a large military base which employs over 1,000 people. Logan was founded by Captain Jamesoren Smith on September 20th, 1847 as a trading post near what is now Hurricane Flats Reservoir. Logan was named after General William H. Logan who commanded Ulysses S. Grant's army during the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Utah Territory. The first school in Logan was built in 1851 and became known as "the old log school." In 1865, Brigham Young University began teaching classes in Logan and it became an all-male institution until 1978 when women were granted access to the university through affirmative action programs. The university has since become one of America's leading research institutions with a wide range of programs including law enforcement and public health studies; business administration; engineering; biology; nursing; social work; and arts and humanities studies.

In 1815, the National Guard was created as an independent militia in response to the War of 1812. From its inception, the Guard has been dedicated to serving our country and its citizens. In 1935, Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act which called for the creation of a national guard system within America’s federal government. The act also established aNational Guard Bureau with jurisdiction over all military activities by members of the executive branch not subject to state or local control. On July 1, 1935, Congress activated 511,000 men and women from across America into service in the National Guard under Chapter 9 (2-1/2 percent) of Title 10 United States Code Sections 6651-6657 inclusive. These individuals had volunteered their services voluntarily but were not conscripted into Federal service by any State or Local authority without their consent and continue to hold that right today. On November 8th, 1938 President Franklin D Roosevelt signed Executive Order 13423 which directed allocations of personnel among certain agencies subordinate to Headquarters United States Army Forces Europe (USAREUR) for emergency military purposes during World War II pursuant to Section 3(a)(5) of Executive Order 12674 which provided: “There is hereby constituted within Headquarters USAREUR an organization known asthe Emergency Military Service Force consisting essentially of volunteer civilians who are available for duty in time of war on short notice as required by law” On December 15th Franklin D Roosevelt issued Presidential Directive 95-10 providing that no individual would be marched offto battle until after he had received his personal letter informing him specifically about what typeof weapons and armor he should bring with him when participatingin hostilities….read more
