Lindon, Utah is a small town in the Arapaho National Forest and BLM area of eastern Utah. The population was 1,819 as of the 2010 census. Lindon is located on U.S. Route 6 about northeast of Salt Lake City and southeast of Ogden. The town was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1847, about three miles east of present-day Lindon on the banks of the Green River. As a result, Lindon's namesake comes from nearby Green River: "Lendon" means "green water." The early settlers developed a cotton gin, sawmill, grist mill and other mills before they became prosperous enough to build handsome new homes in what is now downtown Lindon. Lindon was named for Brigham Young's father-in-law, Lorenzo Snow (1812-1892). Born in Vermont but raised near Winter Quarters (now an unincorporated community), Lorenzo Snow first arrived in America in 1840 as part of the San Francisco Mission Company under Drury Coltrane. He married Elizabeth Ann Chasey here on July 15, 1844; she would later become one of Utah's most notable pioneers—a woman who played an important role in founding Mesa Verde National Park and helping to create Utah State University—and their six children would eventually make their home here too. By 1870, when Brigham Young selected Lindon as his headquarters for all his western possessions (later renamed Provo), it had already become one of the most thriving communities within LDS boundaries due to its busy agricultural pursuits and proximity to irrigation canals that brought plentiful crops into cultivation during freeze-ups or floods that disrupted transportation links between cities across southern Utah and northern Mexico City; this allowed farmers to sell goods local buyers could not purchase at market prices because transport costs were prohibitively high even for those with capital investments such as transportation companies like George Stephenson’setherapy company which transported goods overland from Southern California via Denver Pass through Bear Lake Canyon upriver to Provo & St George[2]. Lindon has been inhabited by Native Americans for over two thousand years and the first European to visit the area was British explorer George Vancouver on July 4, 1792. The first white settlers arrived in 1847 and soon started trading with the Paiute and Shoshoni tribes. A post office was founded in 1852 and remained in operation until 1959. The town was incorporated as a city on March 12, 1902. Lindon experienced significant growth during World War I when thousands of soldiers were stationed there forthe duration of the war. After the war ended, Lindon became known as a center for aircraft production because of its location near Douglas Aircraft Company plant. In the 1970s and 1980s, Lindon underwent several changes that have had impact on its economy and community development. One change came when developer David Wittenberg built an amusement park called Cedar Point Park into what used to be a rural farmstead. With this project came new jobs and increased retail traffic which helped contribute to local economic stability throughout the 1990s and 2000s
